I'm sure I am way behind the crowd on this, much like everything else I "discover", but I found an amazing treat this week at Food Lion.

[backstory] Maybe it is just a southern thing but when I was young snow days meant 2 things, no school and snow cream.

Fresh snow + evaporated milk + sugar + a dab of vanilla extract = snow cream. [/backstory]

While browsing for a frozen treat this Sunday, I saw the box. I didn't think it could match up but I was wrong.

One spoonful and I was back at home with mom and dad, near a hot wood stove and watching game shows and syndicated sit-coms on a 26" Zenith console.

Mayfield is the brand. Snowcream is the flavor.

I just started my second carton. It is nummy.

My girlfriend talks about this. Since we live in a metropolitan area, I don't let her explore that nostalgia.

She grew up in Ohio, too (and I think she'd agree with your assessment, cxhb).

Snow? Where did you find that in the south? It hasn't snowed around here in years. I thought they stopped importing it.

Aha...Mayfield's icy memory enhancer takes me back to the 70s.

A time when my mom drove a yellow Gran Torino.

A time when we only got 6 channels on the TV and 2 of those were PBS.

A time when I still had a full head of hair.

A time when it still snowed at least a couple times a year in the south.

Raised in NE Ohio, but the only similar memory was freshly made, right out of the kettle, maple syrup over snow. Pretty tasty. But I HATE snow.

This sounds really interesting to make for my kids, even the ingredients are doable. Except, what's snow and where do I find me some?
