Be nice, everyone.
No kidding.
I won't even attempt to address some of the ridiculous comments and speculation about why I said I've never heard of this guy. Seriously people, grow the berkeley up.
To borrow a recently used quote, sometimes a cigar is just a cigar.
Stop trying to make it something it's not.
Perhaps this thread explains it.

A lot of it is people reading stuff into posts that's not there, then getting angry about it for some reason. Always trying to steer the conversation into an odd direction. I guess to prove some type of point?

If it helps, I had no idea who he was by name either. But I was also never a Foo Fighters fan.
The wife told me he died, I said "who? So did Madeleine Albright." To which she replied "who?"
Different strokes for different folks I guess.
When Dave picks a drummer, he's gotta have chops. Sad to see regardless, but he's definitely up there as one of the greats.

Imagine Dave Simth died. A lot of people loved Dave and attended his funeral/wake/memorial. You are driving by the funeral home. You stop and go in. You've never met Dave Smith. No idea who he was. You look around, and then loudly announce to everyone in attendance, "I have no idea who this person is. I never met them."
What do you think their reactions might be?
Grohl and Hawkins were a hell of pair. Not just amazing skill in both but holy hell did they have enthusiasm. I've been a Foo fan since the early 2000s but get real anxious around crowds. Went to my first Foo concert in 2019 and it was so worth it. With Grohl literally sprinting across the stage playing the guitar and belting out lyrics and Hawkins just obliterating the drums with so my passion it was truly a sight to see.
I never met him, but he'll be sorely missed. It's sad to see anyone go, when they had that much life. I was under the impression he'd been clean since the early 2000s after a pretty nasty heroin OD. Heartbreaking to hear he had so much junk in his system.

All I heard was THC, Opioids (could be pain killer) and antidepressants (I mean doesn't everyone?).
Honestly, that's pretty mild as far as rockers go.

I thought he was clean too. I saw the Foos in Cincy at the Icon last July and it was a fantastic show. Blew my mind when Taylor came out to cover Somebody to Love and Dave went back to play drums. You can tell when a band is having fun and not just going through the motions and it seemed like the whole band was having the time of their lives, even on the Bee Gees covers. RIP.
I sincerely apologize, it just rubbed me wrong.
Never my intention. All good

Might be a funny way to start this, but I have no clue what Dave smith you mean; prolly not the one I went to school with years ago!
But to your senerio, I would simply inform him who it was. But that's just me.

I just read the "why are we so angry" thread. Good info in there!
This forum has proved to be a better family than others... and family argues sometimes!
I think Mr Hawkins would appreciate this:
Now, to a man who always seemed to be smiling, and who made "playing" his life's work. I'll say it again, the world could really use his humor going forward.
Trolls may be trolls but a good drummer is hard to find.
He will be missed.

Has anyone seen Studio 666?
In reply to pheller :
Yes. So hilariously bad. It's straight from the era of terribly awesome horror flicks.
Since I'm not a huge Taylor Swift fan, here's some Anthony Hawkins goodness...

I've been meaning to post up that Dave and the Foos have a movie. SWMBO and I definitely want to see it.
Foo Fighters was the grieving I think my generation needed after the loss of Kurt Cobain. Taylor was a heck of a drummer RIP.
