My new house has a finished basement. The hygrometer on my wall clock reads about 80%, so it is definitely humid down there. Because the basement is separated by walls and doors, I would like to know if one dehumidifier will be enough, or if I will need to have multiples for each room.

I'd start with just one and leave the doors open.

A portable fan to circulate air from room to room will help the dehumidifier do it's job.

Oh, we've been through quite a few of them. They don't make good ones anymore. They all seem to die every 3-6 years.
look at thrift type shops... we got one for $15 some years back that way...
on a side note... i've been enjoying the low humidity around here of late... sub 30%... even in the mid 90* temps it's been tolerable to work outside
"Teah me" ? DERP.
Thanks for the tips everyone (and to mtn for the warning). Here's a semi-related question: I plan on setting up the dehumidifier to continuously drain into the same drain pipe as the washing machine. I found this picture on Amazon that shows what I want to do:

The problem is the washing machine drain pipe is metal. Are there copper-to-PVC adapters available that would allow me to install a PVC splitter to the copper pipe? Sorry if this is a silly question but I've never worked with plumbing before.

just shove it in there...
run a small flexable plastic line, there should be room next to the washing machine hose.
or modify the return from your HVAC unit to pull from the basement. an air conditioner is a huge dehumidifer
and your drain pipe is galv pipe, most likley not copper.
