I don't know... We have a few folks on this board who are in the 1% group and I don't think anyone thinks the worse of them for it.

The reason the case has gotten a lot of press is because it's a Bugatti. The reason it actually got prosecuted was because of the high stakes money. This type of thing happens a E36 M3 number of times...though usually more via a staged fire or theft. The tide is slowly starting to change recently, but previously most prosecutors wouldn't even look at those insurance fraud cases unless it was wrapped in a perfect bow. In my career in insurance, I spent several years as a fraud investigator. Never had a Bugatti case, but had several classic/high end cars. As long as I had enough evidence, I could deny the claim, but getting it criminally prosecuted was tough to do. Hopefully, this guy won't get off with a fine that would amount to just the cost of having the oil changed in that Bugatti...
Unprofitable properties conveniently burn down by me all the time.
Sucks when it takes down something of historical significance, like a pirate castle.
