As a former band geek. That was truly awesome.
I have total respect for college marching bands, they do a great job.
Funny.
Michigan did a tribute to video games 2 years ago. Used to be on U-tube, but I can't seem to find it. Nice to see the school down south keep up.
Go Blue.
Hoy hell! I was in a regionally competitive marching band in high school, but this is an entirely different ball game. Very impressive.
the good college marching bands amaze me... they march a different show each week and usually do it very well...
I always laugh when I see FL state's marching band... going though HS in north FL everyone loved FL state... talked about how awesome they are n stuff... i've seen them a number of times and while yes they where loud they looked and sounded like crap... none compare to the big 10 bands i've seen

(really TBDBITL is a really good band, it's just fun to rip on them)
Some times our running route takes us by the Michigan Marching Band practice- those kids put a lot into it- much more than I did when I was part of the Vandal Marching Band at Idaho- we did 3-4 shows a year, repeating and adding on as opposed to totally new shows.
Love listening to them.
Yeah, UCs marching band performed the same show 2 - 3 times, then chopped it up and recycled the drill into another couple routines, giving us maybe 3 or 4 total different shows for all the home games. We had a metric crap-ton of fun, but were at best a marginally good band...the fact that Ohio high schools contribute some incredibly talented kids had waaaay more impact than any practicing we did in college.
But, for what its worth, it was a totally volunteer band...you got 1 credit hour for the entire year, so it was mostly a social thing that got you into all the home fottball and basketball games, plus a few road trips a year...free, and in some cases, we were even paid (cash per Diem for food etc on the road).

The Vandal marching band was all volunteer, too- anyone who showed up got to march. Got a credit, a small scholarship, and a nice jacket.
But the drum line rules. We control the entire show.
very cool ! former band geek, music major and drumcorps fan here :D (drumline - snare; performance degree - saxophone, Univ North Texas and SUNY Buffalo)
For the best precision marching band, just Youtube Fightin Texas Aggie Band, especially a vid with the 4 way cross.
Found a short vid of it http://m.youtube.com/watch?feature=related&v=bneBaU18ECs
For you band geeks from the Brass Section, I give you Cincy Brass.

I passed my marching band-geekness off to my son. He spent this summer touring the country with the DCI Cadets. I traveled along with them for a week while I volunteered in the food truck. Those kids work tremendously hard. 8am to 9pm out in the sun working on the drill starting with training camp in mid March to the finals in Indianapolis mid August. Hope to do it again next year. Much respect for all DCI troops.
