Is this the result of all of california's smog being bottled up and released from the Aurora once every month?
I am VERY thankful that when I visited there a few years ago that it was actually pretty nice (just a bit hazy). That is nasty. Perhaps a bit of wake up call for them?
Perri-air, anyone?
But all kidding aside, hopefully this will be a wake-up call. Unfortunately, I am not optimistic. Benefits of a totalitarian govt: when they decide to do something, they can get it done. The reverse is sometimes getting them to do something can be difficult.

In Communist China, smog runs you over with a tank......(I wish I could photoshop decently)
can dust masks really filter smog out of the air? Id imagine the answer is no, and its a feel god measure. 3M P100 masks would be a better bet Id imagine.
In related news, Id imagine the rates of reported sever chronic lung diseases and cancers will skyrocket there in the next 10 years...

but look at all the manufactoring and jobs they have because they don't have the EPA strangling business
Seriously, one look at those pics and anybody who does not see the benefit of the EPA is an idiot.
I've always wondered if we invaded Tehran or Beijing we would need full MOPP4 just to operate in that environment.
We've done a lot on smog over China. It's pretty gnarly.

Think you guys could pull back on the throttle just a bit? Only a very few nutcases might find no value within the EPA; certainly no one on this thread.
EPA regs have made for great reductions in pollution, but too much of a good thing is still too much.
It has been worse... not too far from here.

What? Nobody's allowed to make pseudo-liberal-treehugger-gayslur quips around these parts anymore?
In all seriousness, it wasn't directed at anyone in this thread. I believe we are all in agreement here.
In reply to Matt B:
My comment was made while taking in the context of recent claims by one "side" against the other "side". Asserting that one "side" wants to poison and kill our children is just plain idiotic, but there are those who want to believe that crap when it's fed to them.
So, yeah
