My wife and I were on vacation last week. Came home to find out that we'd had about 12" of snow. Our eldest daughter ran the tractor out of diesel while plowing the driveway. She called our neighbour for help and he spent three hours working on it to get it primed and running. He then turned around and used his tractor to blow out both the house and barn driveways as well as clearing our walkways. I asked him what I owed him and he just said that what neighbours are for. I'll be dropping off a gift card at his place later this week.

My LQ4 cranked over today. That may not seem like much of a deal, but when you have spent months cutting and splicing the factory harness, and then added an aftermarket fuse/relay box into a 67 Camaro, its kinda satisfying.

It's the middle of February and it's about 65 and gorgeous. Having a very productive day of wrenching as a result.

Spent the day in the garage. Miata has new rear subframe, reinstalled the diff, and.......thanks to massive help from my good friend....... a newly installed Happy Meal clutch!!

I'm sore in new and exciting places because OMG what a PITA replacing a clutch is!! But it's in and it works. (Lost 9 lbs off the flywheel in the process )

Poly bushings all around, happy meal, Paco rear upper control arms, Garage Star door bushings, A7s, and a new rear subframe. This car should be in good shape for autocross season.

I think the AC stuff is coming out this week as well......

My teacher asked if I was willing to do a brakestand on junkyard donut spares for a school video because it would "be funny and look really cool."

The guy who's son hit my truck actually paid me, the single battery stick I bought for the Insight looks good and I'm about done topping the rest of them off so I can reassemble, and the oil pump chain guides for the R63 just came in the mail so I can get serious about putting it back together. It's a good day.

Weather was fantastic today, took the wife on a 60 mile cruise and spent the evening at work talking to my boss while he worked on his nova. This entire weekend has been fantastic.

I just bought my first new laptop. (I used to get them used from friends and family and repair them) New Egg was running a sale and I had 122 bucks sitting in my paypal account that I had forgotten about, so I basically knocked $200 off of the price. I feel like I stole it.

I just realized that we could realistically have the challenge car running by the end of the week.

I was able to register my dad and myself for the Rally for the Lane in October. Can't wait.

If my fuel gauge is still ad-hoc "calibrated" like it used to be, in 50 miles of driving including a bunch of city and five cold starts, it used 3 gallons of fuel.

Last fall, when I put the car loosely back on the road to complete Mazdaspeed requirements, I did 50 miles on three gallons of all highway, fully warmed up. Major win.

It is also running significantly cooler, around 170-175F down the highway instead of 195.

It's AMAZING what a difference it makes when the distributor isn't all bound up

I take kid#1 in for her permit tomorrow. She just needs to pass a short written test. I'm excited and terrified.

In irrationally happy news, I'm driving the Insight around almost every day and it makes me so damn happy for no good reason. I know I have to sell it, but I'm enjoying it for now.

Took the Miata out to a car show and had a ton of people come over and talk to me and tell me how awesome it looked. Then yesterday, while driving through town I had some girl pull up alongside me in traffic and yell out "Nice ride!" I completely fumbled and just stammered out a "Thanks." Still, nice to see that people dig the car. The purple rollbar appears to be a hit.

To the random stranger that saw SWMBO on the side of the road with a flat tire, and turned around, backing down the exit ramp to get to her to help (just as roadside assistance showed up), many thank you's.

Since my sophomore year, my advisor at school told me it would take me a full 5 years to graduate. I sat down and looked at my schedule harder last week, and by taking classes this summer I can graduate THIS YEAR (making 4.5 years) instead of waiting until May of next year. I'm excited to get out, but now the job hunt begins..

Went for my one year post cancer check up. All tests came back clear so I'm happy.

Daughter #1's horse decided to colic so we had the vet out who then sent us to the emergency vet hospital 200km away. We were told the bill could be upwards of $15k. Got word that he's coming home tomorrow and the bill will be closer to $7k. I guess I'm in a good mood?

Thank God for the last minute. If it weren't for that, nothing would get done.

I'm now officially ready for this weekend's rallycross. Trailer is converted back to tire hauling status as of tonight. Had a class last night, so no work done. Monday night I swapped the transmission, Tuesday I filled the trans with a secret blend of 2 parts Coastal 85W140 and 1 part O'Reilly brand Type F, tried to make the back brakes work (it's a lost cause...), then spent two hours first working out why the engine wouldn't turn after putting a transmission in, then inspecting the ring gear for damage. (Slave cylinder bolt. Long story.)

I'm technically done a day early, but I still have new car numbers to print out, and I think I may be leaving tomorrow night and not Saturday morning, because I estimate that I'd have to wake up at 3am to get there on time if I did that.

After having to rebuild the motor in the FP car after one autocross, and then having zero oil pressure, we repaired the faulty oil pump pressure relief valve and fired the car up to a wonderful sight of rock solid oil pressure.

Oh, and I put some GRM stickers on it so it officially a racecar now!
