Once I needed a pallet after the local hardware store closed, but he had a few sitting out back. I called the owner's wife at home, she said it was probably alright. A few days later, when I needed a forklift at my dad's nextdoor shop, I stopped in and talked to the owner. He said he hopes the pallet worked fine, and to return the forklift when done.

Who is the manager of your local Lowe's, can you call him at 8:00 at night, and would he let you borrow a forklift? Doubt it. That's just one of the many reasons for shopping at local hardware store. We gotta keep these guys in business.

Still have a small, locally owned HW store here in our little town (population 900) town in SW Colorado. Want to buy six 1" deck screws for a project instead of a big boxful? No problem. I try to use them as much as possible. Besides, the nearest HD is 30 miles away, along with the nearest WalMart. We have no chain stores of any kind within 30 miles. Love it - don't have to have them here, but they aren't that far away when you need them.
