Baltimore had a place opening up with waterjets, welders, 3D printers, paint booth, cnc embroidery machines, presses, lathes, and other bits for use on a subscription membership basis. And they offer classes on use of machines.
Do other cities have anything like this? I'm going to the open house one evening this week, I'll be sure to wear a GRM shirt as I'll be curious to see if any of the instructors are familiar with it ;) as they seem like the bunch that's a challenge team waiting to happen.
We have one in SE MI.
Perfect place for people to figure out stuff to make.
There is something similar here locally called Techshop. It's not cheap at $150 a month but they have all of the tools there to build just about anything you want.
There was one in Seattle. It couldn't make enough money to survive so it's now a pizza place.

The Foundry is $150 a month as well. At first I thought it was expensive, then I thought about the cost of idle projects sitting in need of a small custom fabrication piece. And the cost of said piece when outsourced and the fitment issues when outsourcing it. And suddenly it seems quite reasonable.

There are two in Ann Arbor:
Maker Works
AHA
I volunteer at AHA, they are in the process of moving into a new space.
I'd spend that in a minute if there was one in Pittsburgh.

Someone should contact techshop about advertising in GRM ![](/media/img/icons/smilies/wink-18.png)

Good to know about those two- they can help out with some tools that I don't have (nor should pay for)

Didn't I see something in between the bloodshed on the nightly news about two bicycle carts selling this coffee in Arlington Va last week? BTW $150 for parking in D.C. admittedly is about the monthly median.![](/media/img/icons/smilies/whatthe-18.png)
In reply to nutherjrfan:
That place combined with a $500 BG 323 could be dangerous. Especially seeing that there's (at least) a pair of cars that components could be fabricated for.

There are 3 around pittsburgh. Tech Shop, HackPittsburgh, and Makershop in the childrens museum. TechShop has all kinds of equipment and printers and such, hack pttsburgh is more electronics and computer stuff. I don't know anything about makershop.

Did someone just say, "Build you own custom sized header, chassis braces, and rear crossmember with raised lateral arm pivot points?" (it's only cheating if someone knows exactly what to look for
)
In reply to WildScotsRacing:
In the correct class it's not cheating, and why header when the OEM cast turbo manifold from a bpt is bolt on. ![](/media/img/icons/smilies/wink-18.png)
In reply to captdownshift:
Ah, I see we have a GTR/GTX engine! (I don't intend to intentionally stretch the IT class rules on my Escort build with something as blatent as a stock-looking raised pivot rear crossmember and MX-3 front control arms and... I should stop now. Besides, some of the stuff the BMW guys are allowed to do regarding the "up-dating/back-dating" rules is really tweaking my creative thinking cap).

That is exactly why I offered to get involved. Both groups offer membership in exchange for volunteered time.
I have toured the Maker Works place, their metal shop is very impressive.
Find me one near Charlotte. I need this in my life now that we are a challenge team.
Would the monthly dues be part of the budget?

here you go
The keyword to look for is "makerspace" they're thankfully popping up in big cities pretty regularly. I've been looking at getting one more local to me, but it seems really expensive and difficult without local political friends.
that is really cool.
I just found a few in Cleveland, but they don't seem to have much (if any) metal working or fabrication equipment.
