The Onion has purchased and will control Infowars in their bankruptcy auction.
So basically nothing will change. Fake news will be swapped for a different brand of fake news.
At least it will still be good for a laugh.
Very interesting. I'm an avowed Alex Jones hater, so this is an unexpected twist.
That said, the more humor, the better.

Except that only North Korea takes the Onion seriously.
It must be difficult for the Onion to make up more outrageous news than the E36 M3 that's actually happening everyday.

The difference is that one will be tongue in cheek satire and the other was hateful purposeful misinformation that pretended to be real.
It's a great way to neuter Infowars. Love it.
From the BBC: “We are planning on making it a very funny, very stupid website,” said Ben Collins, a former NBC News journalist who is chief executive of The Onion’s parent company, in a statement.
The auction is still going. If anyone wants to look.

Then it's in good hands.

It's a lot of fun to mix The Onion and other parody news sources in with your feed of real news, then when you see a headline you get to guess if it's a parody or not.

Well, and the equally intelligent Fox News...
They broadcast about the onion having 4.3 trillion readers daily...
The Onion is back in print too, which is a cool thing.
Unfortunately Alex Jones is right back to broadcasting on X so it hasn't stopped his insanity. Also, there's some judge who's questioning the purchase, hopefully he won't get in the way.
Pizzagate.
making frogs gay through chemicals.
I think infowars was just a long con onion site all along that helped me realize how stupid some of my friends were and cull them from my life.

Which is often interpreted as meaning: "Let's say some really god-awful stuff and when we get called on it, respond with "Can't you take a joke?""

"without a clear indicator of the author's intent" is key. And "clear indicator" varies with intelligence and/or ignorance of the observer. The Schrodinger's Cat of prose.
I thought I read that the deal wasn't really done and that Musk had made a bid for it too.....that's what my closet Trumper friends are saying anyway.
I saw something about Musk's attorneys being involved too, but it wasn't clear just what's going on. I heard the head Onion guy on the radio yesterday and he seemed confident it was a done deal, but we'll see what happens in the coming weeks.
