SUV;s in the median are a fairly regular sight in New England.

A sight that warms the cockles of my heart as I drive my in my snow-tire-shod Civic beater.

i did a 250 mile run at 5 am this morning, passing SUVs in a Town Car is so cool, by the way Michelin Scorpions rock

I actually LIKE driving in the snow when there's no traffic in the picture.

i hate the low-speed-only, brake-only TCS in our '03 odyssey, so i generally turn it off whenever i'm driving in slippery conditions.

at the start of this winter i bought a set of Michelin X-Ice 2s and they're pretty bad-ass. i had to take the babysitter home about a half hour ago. there's anywhere from 1" - 6" of snow on the interstate and the ody rips through it with ease. these tires are better, not by a lot but definitely noticeable, than the dunlop graspic DS-2s that they replaced. on my probe GT i run the dunlop wintersport 3Ds, which also kick ass.

and yes, i also enjoy seeing invincible SUVs being vinced.

OK, it's official, I am dyslexic. I thought the thread title was WHITE PEOPLE STUFF and the slippery referred to this would be a slippery slope to comment or talk about.

So am I the only shiny happy person that honks and waves when driving past the idiot in the ditch? especially when they flew past you doing 30+ mph than the rest of traffic?

i can't do it exactly as described because i don't get passed in the snow.

I love driving in the snow. The weekend before Christmas the family went up to CT to visit the in-laws and drop my stepson off at his dad's. Took our Range Rover. Absolutely great in the white stuff.

Simply put, if you can't drive in the snow, it won't matter how many wheels are driven. If you can, then AWD will be better than 2WD. And if the snow's deep, more ground clearance is better than less.

Snow is fun and snow tires are the bomb! I'll take my 3 series with Blizzak's over the wife's Suby with no seasons on it in the snow any day. Not only can the Bimmer go, it can also stop and turn!

No, I do the same thing. I think it's worse (for them) when that honk and wave is coming from a miata. Cummon man, if I can make it through this stuff, you should be able to get through it 10X easier, in 2WD even.

We don't get enough snow for that, but I do essentially the same thing on 2-lane country roads when the @$$hole who passed me on a solid yellow at 30 over gets pulled over by some small town cop.

My wife works in the 313 (downtown Detroit-please pity her). Yesterday afternoon, on her way to work, she saw a C5 Vette stuck on 8 mile, trying to get on 275.

Why would anyone have a Vette as their only car is beyond me. Most people have the sense to have winter beaters, or else buy snow tires, or else don't go out in 8" of snow in your Vette.

What's this white stuff you speak of? I've heard rumors it exists but have been told to avoid it at all costs. That's why I stay in the Bay Area.

Tips for driving in North Georgia:

1. If it's 70 degrees and sunny, park your ass in the left lane doing 10 MPH below the speed limit (just like the guy next to you) and enjoy the beautiful montain view. None of these dumb hicks have jobs they need to get to.

2. If it's 28 degrees and tiny clear cylinders are pelting your windshield, you'd better put the hammer down and get to the cabin.

3. If it's 28 degrees and snowing, drive like you normally would in atlanta. After all, all that white stuff on the ground really isn't much to look at. The one exception is bridges/overpasses. You know, they freeze first in cold weather, so the proper way to handle them is to get a good running start, say 75-80 MPH. This will give you enough speed to traverse the 50' long bridge. Then, as SOON as your rear tires are completely on the bridge, stomp on the breaks so the ABS will keep the car from sliding.

I know this is like preaching to the choir, but I have to rant anyway.

This morning, our little slice of heaven around here in WV received maybe an INCH of snow...and still our brillant drivers managed to have wreck after wreck on Interstate 81 despite the fact that it was...you know...plowed and treated with salt. ARRGH!!!

Of course, driving the 35 min. to work only to be told to go home is disheartening as well...but at least a drive home on the relatively untouched back roads should make it all better, right?

Wrong.

I believe every residence I came across on the way back home had a 4x4 that either wildly accelerated out of their driveway to beat my lowly sedan, or decided to patiently wait for me to pass and then proceed to plant themselves about 3 feet from my bumper.

I miss my Nokian Hakka-equipped SC'ed Miata.

It's the loonie drivers that suck Last eveneing on he way home in the Toytoter, I was tooling along on the major side road, that was just four ruts to the pavement.

A car three of four ahead of me made a quick stop to turn into the Korean Christian church. I had enough room to pump the brakes an slow easily. But in my mirror? Its a jacked up CJ 7 slidin' then spinning! LOL Luckily the SUV in front of me rolled enough for me to follow and we all watched the Jeep doing 360's as we rolled on home

Moral? Leave stopping distance. And leave the phone off

Instead of dealing with people who can't handle driving in the snow, we have to watch for people who can't handle driving in the RAIN. It used to take 3 or 4 inches of snow in Michigan to slow things down as much a rainstorm will slow the freeways here.
