To the people who are watching the world cup, who has impressed you so far? Of the usual suspects, only Germany has really impressed me. The Swiss really pulled off a huge upset.

Sort of unimpressive first round - I was impressed with the Swiss this morning as they held on under that Spanish onslaught. Several teams have a lot to do in group games 2 and 3.

International sporting events that usually end in ties =

It's like giving out trophies for "participating"...

I'm just another American who doesn't get it.

Only ties in the first "group" round - from then on there will be a winner even if it takes a penalty kick shoutout after 30 mins of extra time

Loving it. My local sports bar was a riot waiting to happen for Eng V USA.

Couldn't believe the Swiss pulled off the upset.

Ties? Get over it Nancy boys. Life happens. Ties are a part of soccer. Believe me, no one cares if you don't "Get it". Why don't we change a sport the rest of the world loves....just for you. The most widely viewed sport (Queue Clarkson voice) In The World I think FIFA can spare a couple million Americans who "don't get it."

Loving the game. Hating the vuvuzelas.

(This whole post is smack talk btw. I figured since we were talking sports everyone would man up and keep from getting their feelings butt hurt on the internet.)

US football used to have tie games all the time until they put in the sudden death overtime rule (I believe a tie is still possible, it just doesn't happen very often.)

I watched it in my local "english" pub. Couldn't believe it was 95% USA supporters. When England went ahead early, I was one of perhaps 10 or 15 people cheering - luckily for my own safety, I was drowned out by the groans and boos of everyone else. I thought the person who unrolled the large banner that simply said "July 4, 1776" when the US equalized was being a bit cheeky!

Problem with your arguement- I never asked to have the sport changed for me. Yes, ties are a part of soccer, once again - What's the point?

FIFA will move along without me and the other billions of people who don't care about the sport. Just can't wait until F1 makes a bigger podium so all the teams can stand on the top step...

Don't get me started on the vuvuzelas

Did they have their pants down? That's the only way I know how to be "cheeky".

Admittedly, our goal was ugly luck. Couldn't believe that.

Since I'm being insensitive it's spelled "argument." Have you ever gotten frisky with a women and not reached the Ultimate Conclusion? Yeah. Me too. You'll feel better next time. Watch more soccer and you'll be ok.

You and I. Vuvuzela's. We agree!

I watched a replay of some game today with a scottish, or irish, commentator. WTF?! Did they guy have cookies in his mouth the whole time?!

It is only a tie in the round robin. In the elimination round, it comes down to a penalty shoot out. And plus since there is a point system, it is nothing like giving out trophies for participating.

I was actually impressed by the North Koreans. They played some hard nosed defense.

Italy played in a lackadaisical manner but turned it on in the final 20 minutes, I see good things in the future for them.

It takes some practice and active listening to understand the lilt and brouge of the insular tounge. Ever since my sister married an Irish bloke and moved to the UK, I've become somewhat better at interpreting what my dozen or so Irish in-laws are trying to say.

Soccer is their favorite thing to talk about, and they take it very seriously. For that reason, I keep my opinion of the sport to myself.

They also like to talk about Formula One and beer, so at least we have something in common. When they visited the first time, I took some of the guys out to a sports bar and got them all Budweisers. They thought it tasted like bad water, and griped when American football came on the toob.

Sometimes it'd just easier to agree to disagree..

That crowd sounds rough. I think I'd keep my mouth shout too.

Reminds me of that TV commercial where they take the Italian relatives out to dinner at The Olive Garden.

I hear that it's the most popular sport in the world all the time. Thing is, why isn't the world's most populous country, China, represented? Not only that, they don't actually play that much soccer in China either. In France rugby is their favorite style of football. Too much obnoxious jingoistic nationalism involved in soccer for me to like it anymore. does make it easy to make fun of the english tho'. heck, nationalism explains a lot of it's early popularity, Hitler had a real fascination with assimilating the great Austrian team of the 30s, and the Brazil of my youth is dead and buried. not watching!
