Last night my 5-year old was goofin’ around and for some reason, I just noticed that he’s really getting big. Now I’m sad. He’s the youngest of the three, so some of that sadness comes from the fact that each first he does now, will be the last time I get to experience a first. His first tooth is loose now, that’s the last time I get to experience the excitement of a first loose tooth with any of my kids.
Also, he’s my little buddy. Don’t get me wrong, my oldest (boy) and middle (girl) are my buddies too, but he and I have a connection that anybody that spends any time with us at all can see. He’s the gear head of the three, he makes up jokes, and has personality that just spills out into everything he does.
I’m sad to see him grow up, but I feel bad for feeling that way.
I won’t bore you with tons of pics, but here’s a few just cuz I had to.
I hear ya. My oldest is now 9 and it just seems llike yesterday we were bringing him home from the hospital.
It's not mushy drivel, it's being a parent. I'm going through the exact same things. My oldest is 8 and my twins turn 5 next month. Yesterday I allowed my oldest to "babysit" while I was finishing up some things around the house. That's the same kid who used to fall asleep in my arms every night. And my daughter is asking to have her ears pierced and is into fashion clothes.
At least for me, while I'm sad in a way to see them growing up, I'm also enjoying it more and more all the time. The baby stage was really difficult, especially the twins. It's gotten much better in recent years.
Mine will be 15 this year. I have a picture on the fridge of me holding her the day she came home from the hospital, it seems like it was just yesterday. Now I'm teaching her to drive and it scares the poop out of me; my kid out there with all those obliviots texting while driving etc.

Don't feel bad. Beating oneself up is never helpful. It's absolutely normal to feel that way. My youngest turned 10 today. I remember her so tiny. Those are good memories and feelings.
Ours just graduated high school, 18 and off to college. Genia is taking it hard.
Just yesterday he was 5
Mine turned three in March, we're starting to potty train, she's beginning to talk much more, she rides her tricycle and drives her little power wheels. I don't have a ton of tiny memories, because she hasn't been all that tiny. She's in the 95th percentile in height among girls. According to the doc, they're expecting her to hit 5' 8", or maybe even 5' 10"
Tell me about it. Tommy graduated h.s. last week, and Katie paid her first traffic ticket today. (I made her go to the courthouse and do it herself, even told her "I didn't get a ticket" when she asked me to come with. I can't believe I've turned into my own unreasonably mean mother.)
Oh, and Dr. B, that is one adorable little guy.

Take that with a grain of salt, it's difficult to predict that stuff. My daughter was above the 95th% in height and weight since infancy and is now almost 5. She takes dance classes and is like a linebacker among a group of horse jockeys. But nobody in either of our direct families are taller than 5'9", especially the women. I don't think she's going to be all that tall. Oldest son started off huge and is now about average.
Had the same thing happen to me, but on the other end of the spectrum. When I was 13, I still hadn't hit 5' tall. I very much remember the doctors saying I'd be 5'5" or 5'6". I'm 5'9", and may have been taller if I didn't smoke during my growth years.

Sounds like you're one of those mean parents that makes a kid be responsible for his/her actions. How dare you!?!? My dad told me "son, if you ever end up in jail for something you did, you better find out how much the rent is 'cuz you ain't gonna want to come home."
Oh, and thanks. He is pretty adorable.
My son is feeling confused at the moment. He's 11 years old, and now wears shoes the same size as his father. It's really funny to watch him, because this one really rocks his world.
And yes, I am pretty small, and I don't concur with the legend about feet and hands.
I've hit those stages. Working in the kitchen and you turn around to see some kid standing there when it seems like you were tripping over him last weekend......
Man... I have no hope then... I already think my kid is growing up too fast and he is only 19 months!!!!!!

Stig is about 2 months away from turning 4 and my baby Emma is having her first birthday party this weekend. On one hand, I understand why my wife sorta wants a third to continue this 'phase' on the other hand---I sure feel old hustling after Stig when he's on a rampage.

Don't remind me. My only is 9 months old now. I'm trying to figure out where the newborn we brought home last august went to. Going theory is that this man-child I have now ate him and assumed his looks and personality as a result.

this is my lil guy.. he is 8 yrs old. 4ft 9in and 125 pounds of solid muscle.. not bad for a kid who wasnt supposed to live past 2 or 3 months.. he was born with a congenital heart defect.. now he is hitting home runs and throwing strikes.. cant imagine my life without him.
Boost, don't feel bad about it. I spent Saturday driving to Mid-Ohio for the Grand-Am racing with my two sons (26 & 23) in the Astro, just like when they were little. It gets better as they get older. I can even squeeze gas money out of them occasionally !
