in line at wal mart, indian woman(not american indian) two kids. she looks like a functional human being. opens her wallet and pulls out her EBT card(aka welfare card) and her walmart discount card pays for her stuff. i walk out behind her and she climbs into her brand new Honda suv, still has the temp plate on it. this may seem like a minor gripe but it just chaps my butt. and i am struggling to keep up.. GERRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR

been there done that... loved food shopping behind what looks like an obviously well to do woman and watch her pull out the card.. and then watch her get into her brand new sclade.

However, I have also seen people who look (and smell) homeless use them too.. so I do not feel so bad about my position in life.

There was a guy in my office the other day talking about how he's been training for marathon and how is rec basketball team took first in their region and in the next breath he laughs about how he's getting full 100% disability benefits from the military. Now, it may be a mental, PTSD thing, but he seemed extremely functional and I've been around plenty of guys with PTSD that are still in the Army -- you notice a difference. I had to ask him to leave before I said something I shouldn't have.

I believe being brain-dead counts as a disability.

I did too.. but I saw it with my own eyes.

And like I said, I have also seen the card (and wic) work the way it is supposed to. I see it work properly more than I don't.. so overall it must be doing ok.

This is not a bad idea. A lot of people have camera phones. How about taking pictures of the relevant items / people and sending them to the local welfare office.

Not to get off topic, but does anyone know where you can buy government cheese. The woman always says how good government cheese is from when she had it as a kid or something.
She wont shut up about it so I want to call her bluff. Right now I order kosher cheese online because it's the only cheese she will eat. It's a pain in the butt.
This is how I got her away from the kosher butcher so I know it will work. Any help would be great.

Government cheese has been fazed out. She is not alone in her praise of it, I have had it and it's not bad cheddar cheese at all. But then, I really like cheese so maybe I'm not picky enough.

Wrong for getting cranky about folks abusing the system that our taxes pay for? Not in any way, shape or form. It's infuriating.

I have seen worse, i had a girlfriend whose mother had government assistance for heating...she would crank the heat to 90+ then open the windows. I once asked why she didn't manage her heat better. She said "i'm not paying for it"

That said, i dont make much, and the gubbmint wants alot of money from me for those classes i been takin these last four years that cant get me a job. So, i have the EBT card...once i can afford to i will quit.

I have a step sister who's a master of the system. Maybe, after decades of work, I've finally passed her on the lifestyle scale.

When I bought my house there was a 14 year old living next door. He would follow Mom up and down the driveway whining about something, finally Mom would knuckle and give him whatever he was cranking about.

Fast forward ~30 years.....

Not married, fortunately not living there any more, NINE CHILDREN only two he has to pay for, hasn't worked a day in his life, doesn't plan to. His aunt died without a will, he was the sole male heir so he got a check for $100,000. Gone in 14 months, now he's back pestering his 80+ year old mother for donations.

The occasional Wal-Mart incident doesn't rile me like the habitual offender with absolutely nothing physically wrong with him, he lacks morals and urgency.

CB if you were in the mood, you should have asked if your tax dollars paid for the SUV too. You can take her.

Co signers, boyfriends that foot the bill... The car could also be borrowed from a family member.

There are ways to do it.

I find this experience completly belivable, I see it all the time in my nieghborhood. There is a family that I know localy that is in govt. housing (houses that are nicer than mine BTW). One member of the family is on disability legitimatly, but everyone else has figured out how to ride the system for all its worth. They don't pay for anything and get money too. The one adult son is also on disability, but there is nothing wrong with him unless its a moral disability. He wears expensive clothes, drives a fairly new yukon, plays sports all the time, and cuts hair at a boot-leg basement barber shop every afternoon for under-the-table cash. THen he goes to the grocery store and loads up his yukon with stuff purchased on the govements tab. There are others in the nieghborhood that I'm sure are doing the same, this is just the one that I personaly know the details of. The other big money maker for people in my hood is frivolous law suits, don't even get me started on that...
