I take that to mean we need to park ourselves at a brewery for a few hours. I'm pretty ok with that

Are you going up 95 towards dc and then across PA or going out 64 to WV to get back to ohio?

Okay, that's Greenbrier, which is suburban mall-land and mostly mediocre chain restaurants. There is a Surf Rider at 725 Eden Way North - less than 2 miles from your hotel. Get the crabcakes and the steamed broccoli. The fried flounder is also usually pretty good. No music but Surf Rider is regularly ranked in the top tier of local seafood joints.

Surf Rider

You will be only about 15 minutes from downtown Norfolk, which gives you myriad choices for food and nightlife, but there's no way I'd drag a trailer there.

Surfrider is okay but can be a pain in the ass to get in as they don't take reservations. The Black Pelican at Green Briar Mall is much better. It's just down the road from where you'd be staying on Battlefield.

I've lived in Chesapeake for 9 years now and have lived in the Hampton Roads area since 1998. Avoid VA Beach waterfront area in the summer as it's overtaken by the tourists and price gougers, the Pembrook area isn't too bad now with a comedy club, a few nice restaurants and pubs and plenty of shopping if the wife needs to stretch her legs.

Most of the better things to do are during the offseason when the tourists are gone.

Best Barbeque I've found in the are is either Q Barbeque in Richmond or Jakes down in Virginia Beach, I like both better than Pierces.

If you're going up 95, dominion speedway between RVA and DC will be having a NASA race weekend

You can also walk to the Wild Wing Café for decent wings and food, plenty of different beers and live music right behind your hotel.

To that end, Center of the Universe brewery north of Richmond has good stuff, and should be pretty easy to get to pulling a trailer. Not far off 95 from exit 86, and it's in an industrial park so if the semi drivers can get trailers back there a car trailer should be able to as well.

That was why I asked. Center of the universe up 95 or midnight brewery out past shortpump on 64.

The new Stone facility should be decently easy to get to from the highway and trailer-friendly as well, if IPAs are your thing. Love the taproom, just not so much down with the IPAs. Approach and leave from 64 east (exit 192 or 193) and you would be able to avoid the narrowest parts of downtown Richmond.

If I'm thinking right, Center of the Universe is right off 95, and it will take about 2 hours for us to get there from chesapeake. Does that sound right? If so, maybe we could do a lunch there on Sunday. Who could do that?

As long as the traffic coming back from Virginia Beach isn't too bad, that sounds about right. A lot of the breweries don't serve their own food here in Richmond, and that includes COTU, so would be dependent on whether or not there's a food truck there on Sunday. The calendar doesn't seem to say that there will be - so just something to keep in mind.

Well if enough people want to meet up, I don't care where we do it. Like I said earlier, we'll be on a pretty tight schedule, so while doing lunch would be great, we won't be able to hang out all afternoon either.

Done. Open to any grmers that would like to come. Early afternoon at COTU (say 12- 2). Showing up in an old or cool car strongly encouraged.

There are a couple sandwich and fast food places nearby, and they're usually cool with bringing in your food.

Hey guys, change of plans. It took us 12 hours to make an 8 hour drive. Looks to be the same tomorrow, so we're taking a different route back and leaving very early. It sucks, but I won't be able to meet you guys for lunch. Maybe some other time.
