In reply to Duke :
When a lot of comics love Bobcat Goldthwait and a paying job very much, they make a very wrong baby clown movie that is very right.
I'd never heard of it, either, but based on that clip, it's right up my alley. Looks like Amazon Prime has it.
In reply to Marjorie Suddard :
OK, thanks. Never heard of it before. I don't get the Scorsese reference, though.

Scorsese called it "the Citizen Kane of alcoholic clown movies."
This is where Duke takes anti-pop to eleven by saying "who is Citizen Kane?"

I don't know what any of this means, but I am glad you people enjoy it.

This sounds like one of those things which people would relaly like if they like that sort of thing.

What the berkeley did I just watch, and is it really going to be worth my time to see the whole movie?

Hah, no, I've seen Citizen Kane.
It was terrible. Just terrible.
In reply to Mr_Asa :
Yes.
Well, you can probably answer that better for yourself by deciding whether that was a good use of two minutes.
But for me, absolutely.
Clown bars.... don't get me started....
Anyway, if you want to see an interesting Bobcat (directed) movie, with Robin Williams (serious role), take a look at Worlds Greatest Dad.
Shakes the clown is one of my all time favorite movies. I bought it on VHS and when I no longer had a VCR I bought it on DVD, I probably own it via Amazon streaming as well.
It probably explains my sense of humor more than anything else.

That's the Brady Bunch mom. Florence Henderson. I wonder if she was trolling the Clown Bar for the pickup?

Well, that tears it. I'm watching this tonight!
The way Bobcat once explained it was that he began writing Shakes when he was young and Florence was still a big star so he thought it would be funny to write her in the role of the one night stand and by the time the movie got made her fame had fallen to the point that she was willing to take the role.
At least once a week I take the opportunity to say "you clowns are on dope!" In conversation. If someone recognizes it I know we will be friends.
It has happened exactly once in over 20 years that someone responded with "You don't see nothing, just a bunch of happy clowns sitting around a big plate of beef!"
