This beast should be taken out and put to work and I mean HARD work

Why do people do this to such a strong car I will never understand.

That's stupid. The paint is probably all screwed up from leaving the vinyl on it for 11 years, not to mention all the dry rotted fittings and whatnot. 11 miles or not, that really isn't worth it.
I thought Ford would only sell the Cobra R to you if you signed a contract that it would enter x number of races in the next 12 months?
Someone should pull a james may a la top toys and buy it, throw away the wrapping, and go play with it!!
Someday, when I am rich beyond the dreams of avarice, I will search out those cars, pay the asking price, tear off the plastic and window stickers and do such an outrageous burnout as I leave his climate controlled garage he will become apoplectic with fury, and drop dead from a stroke.
And I will laugh.
What do you think it will sell for?
I'd doubt it will sell for whatever his reserve is if $62k isn't enough. I wouldn't pay 2k for it.
Find a 1969 Maverick in the same condition. It cost $1995 at the time, worth more now?
Buy $15,000 of Mutual Funds and see me in ten years.....
Wait, buy $15,000 of cocaine, turn it fast and see me in ten months. I'm RICH!
This guy didn't realize that a racing pedigree and trophies make for a better race car?
The Ford dealership in Lancaster, Ca. got one. I asked the guy how they got it, and he told me they did a raffle for them. It was 75K MSRP, 89K after dealer mark-up. I was in there for a recall fix to my sister-in-law's Focus and just waiting for it to get done. I talked to the manager for a little while about old Fords from the 60s and 70s, then he just asked if I wanted to take it for a test drive. Thought about it for a while, and the only outcome I saw in my mind was a wrecked factory race car. I reluctantly declined, but it was best. But, to see all that the SVT crew did to these was neat.
Fuel cell
IRS
6 Speed trans
Modified engine
Ground effects
Side exit exhaust
They had a paper in the window stating "Top speed is 175 MPH in 5th gear (aerodynamically limited)"
If I could, I'd buy one still.

It's Barrett-Jackson Syndrome. Buy it. Put it away. Hope it's worth something 30 years down the road.
He's only 20 years too soon.
Seems retarded to me to pull that much of the factory plastic off the exterior. There are people out there who sport wood over factory chalk marks, and I imagine that those people want to gouge their eyes out when they see all that factory plastic wadded up.
it's a cool car, no doubt, but i'm not the type to pay top dollar for anything.
I'm just amazed someone would bid $62k or more on ebay. Whacky. I get nervous with anything over $100.

The 00 R is an incredible car. There are many cars that perform better, but almost nothing has a higher cool factor just because Ford worked so hard to make it an actual performance vehicle, not a sticker & interior package.
Guys who buy new cars and don't use them should not be handsomely rewarded. Too many of us scrape by to have decent wheels, and this person parks a dream machine.

Another way to look at it...
The window sticker show just $5 short of $55k.
$55,000.00 in 2000 had the same buying power as $70,571.57 in 2010.
Min bid was $62.8k
$49,000.00 in 2000 had the same buying power as $62,872.85 in 2010.
In this way of thinking the car has to sell for $70k just for the "investment" to break even.

Have we really experienced 27% inflation in just 10 years? WOW.

Just some stuff I sourced here:
http://www.dollartimes.com/calculators/inflation.htm
It also says...
Annual inflation over this period was 2.52%.

So dumb. That car is has been sad and depressed for 11 years. It needs some speedy therapy. Literally!
