To put this on topic.. A buddy of mine scored a 1 owner E21 for $1000 from a goodwill here a couple years ago. Had a failing respray, but otherwise pretty mint. Too bad he hit a deer with it.

Second Pair are a handmade pair of horsehide boots from Al's Attire in San Fransisco. The best I can tell they have never been worn. I'm not sure how much these cost new but it's at least as much as the Danners and could be as much as double http://alsattire.com

Since I posted this in GRM like a dink and not OT as intended, my only automotive find at Goodwill was an absolutely mint '98 Legacy tape deck for $.50. Snatched it up in case my beater Outback actually lives long enough to see another owner.

Dang. I bought a Kodak Retina IIC for $10 and its worth $500. Antique books are another easy score. Bought a bunch for cheap and they always seem to profit.

Too many to list. Just look for the classics and 1st editions. If you find both in good condition, then profit. Ebay and CL in the antiques section are the easiest places to sell, but lately I am finding it harder to get rid of them.

I bought a dress jacket once for $5 that had a yarmulke and a $20 bill in the pocket. I also bought a pair of new Docker khakis for $1 that I wore for about 8 years.

Not thrift stores, but back when outlet stores actually used to be outlets and not just ripoffs, I bought an LL Bean blanket-lined field coat and a pair of duck boots with thermal inserts for a grand total of maybe $30. That was at least 20 years ago, and both still see regular use in the winter.

Well, that puts to shame my most memorable thrift shop score. I found an HP Audio Test Set for $10, even the rechargeable batteries inside it were good. I didn't know what it was worth exactly, but knew it was more than $10. I posted it on eBay and got close to $600 out of it. Heck yeah.

I just stopped at a garage sale this morning. Picked up a Barbie motorhome like this one for $5, complete but all the stickers were crap. I was going to clean it up for my niece but I really like GMC motorhomes so it may end up with some of my old RC car parts in it and working lights first.

My buddies wife does this for a living. Hitting thrift stores and pawn shops to sell stuff on ebay. Her biggest score this year was a watch she got for $12 and sold for $2500. Not bad.

I cannot even begin to list all the Thrift store finds I have made. Everything from Hockey Gear to my Pinarello Road Bike for $35. Some decent Craftsman wrenches and screwdrivers show up on occasion for a buck a piece. I don't look for clothes as much as I used to since apparently SWMBO does not have quite the same shabby dress code I do.

You guys are reminding me why I need to shop the thrift stores more often.

I have a white button up short sleeve one I bought at school and never wore. I have two red button ups as well. I have a few nissan/uti shirts too but I must keep those, they're the only nice ones.

Pretty much my entire catalogue of t shirts came from goodwill. The awesome Maserati shirt I'm wearing right now is from there actually.
I've found old polaroids and mini dv cameras as well.
Golf clubs, I bought a $10 office quality scanner there that looked brand new.

Cameras, books, bikes, etc are really a bit of a crapshoot. Too many people think a Kodak is worth money simply because it's old. You have to know a bit to find a good deal. Actually smart phones are making pricing things easier now, and values harder to find.

Example: Polaroid made millions of cameras in hundreds of models. Only perhaps 3 or 4 models are worth more than $20.

oh, and books. books all the time, usually there is the same bit of danielle steele/politician books, with a tiiiiiiiny smattering of really interesting and hard to find reads in there

We have two in the area here, Out of the Closet. Basically dealing with gays, which means you can find some really nice clothes for cheap. I have bought a bunch of nice shirts and tees there. Guess I need to check out some high end shoes now. Very nice selection of books, too.

I always check the camera section when I find myself at a thrift store, but never find anything but crummy '90s point and shoots and the occasional obsolete digital cameras.

I scored a portable bar for $6. I saw someone looking at it and I was about to go over and say. "Oh that's cool." My brain starts yelling, "Shut. Your. berkeleying. Mouth." Good thing, or they probably would have bought it.

Are you kidding? Thrift stores and I go waaaaay back to my student years. I've scored everything from a brand-new Trunktentz tent for my Dakota ($50) to one of those huge, fancy cast-iron floor vents in my house (worth a fortune) for $15. Most of my wardrobe comes from Value Village or Ex Toggery. Some notable scores were a Roberto Cavalli jacket, retail about $400, for $18, a pair of dressage riding boots (retail $300-got em for $20). I refuse to do Walmart, and if you're willing to take the time to look, you can find much better quality at affordable prices.

i always hit the red-white and blue store in pittsburgh the manager gets a little mad at me because i always dicker over price....i just picked up these metal cabinets for $5.00 ea they wanted $30.00 a piece for them. i said i would take them all for $5.00 ea and she said get them out of here
