Rant/vent alert.
At 34, and after 12 years of glasses I finally decided to try out contacts. My eye exam was a week and a half ago and it took a week for my contacts to come in. Then it was 3 days, yesterday, before I could have my “eyeinar” to learn how to put them in. When I went to put them in today I lost my right one. Well berk. Call the eye place, and they will order another set of trials for me. Another 5 business days, from a Saturday, should be next Friday.
At least I still have the one for my left eye to practice with until then. And my old RX is still close enough.
I could never get the nerve to try them. I just don't like touching my eyeballs
20+ yr contact wearer here..
Try when you lose the contact after putting it in earlier, then find it all dried out on your pinkie knuckle for who knows how long.... put it back in all crusty and dry. It sucked.
I started wearing glasses at age 13. Went to contacts at 25 in 2000 when I started mountain biking. The first week putting them in was horrible but once i had them in I loved it. Still wearing them and now I can put them in and take them out without a mirror if I have to.
Hang in there. It's worth it. If the first brand isn't comfortable in a few days, try another brand. Some I've tried make my eyes itch all the time but the one that fits I can't feel at all.

I find it curious that out of the myriad of body parts I have, there are only four that I refuse to let go under the knife and they’re the four that are spherical.
So, if it’s round, put the scalpel down; why is that?
I’ve worn glasses since I was 2. Around 23 I decided to try contacts, for whatever reason they gave me rigid gas-permeable lenses.
They never wanted to pop off my eyes at night & most of the time I needed yo use the plunger provided to pop the lenses out. One night it took a chunk of my cornea with me.
I no longer wear contacts...

LASIK and a vasectomy. Best investments EVER!!
I wore glasses from 3rd grade onward. Contacts at 20. LASIK at 30 and I can’t tell you how awesome it is.

Update. I got my second pair on Friday on my way to work, but I didn’t have time to put them in.
Saturday I wore them without issue, mostly just a short drive and going to the movies.
Sunday I didn’t have time to put them in as I was out the door at 4 am so I took them with me to put in on break. But then I lost them. Thankfully I found them that night as the case ended up under the passenger seat in my car.
Monday I was in early again so I decided to wait until I got home to put them in. I ended up working 11 hours and didn’t get home until 5. Still I put them in as I need the practice and even a few hours is better than nothing.
Today I had plenty of time in the morning so I’m on my first full day of wearing them. The correction is different from glasses. As the assistant who helped me said, it is more “fluid”. Either way, I’m looking forward to my first time I’m in a helmet without glasses or looking through a viewfinder.

I tried for a few weeks. They felt comfortable/ unnoticeable for roughly 2 to 3 hours in that time. Berk that. Back to glasses. Luckily, my script is pretty weak and not required for driving, but was the main reason I got my eyes check in the first place.
I wear contacts all the time now. I've been in glasses or contacts or a mix since 15 (I'm 42) and contacts are where it's at. Peripheral vision, slipping helmets on, wearing safety goggles or glasses, etc is just so much better with contacts.
You'll get used to them. I absolutely hated touching my eyes when I started, and my blink reflex was almost unstoppable. But now, I can put them in and take them out in seconds and without a mirror. Just be sure to wash your hands first! Introducing bacteria into your eyes is bad news.
I love my contacts. Have worn the for 24 of my 38 years. The first couple weeks was odd, but now I feel weird if I don’t wear them. Every few years I get the cheapest pair of glasses I can for emergency’s. But I probably only wear them once or twice a year.
Another contact lens user here. 40 now, been wearing since I was 15. You’ll get used to them.
I started wearing glasses in high school and just could not accept the idea of wearing contact lenses. Touch my eyeball? And what if the lens rotates back and slices my optic nerve or something?
And then one night, about 10 years later, my glasses got broken at a concert. I had to do the hour-long drive home at night while wearing my Rx sunglasses.
The next day I switched to contacts. Totally don't miss glasses.
And my contact lens tips:
I just stick them on. I know, it sounds simple, but try looking just above your eye while putting them in.
To remove a lens, try sliding it off the cornea. Once it's on the white part of your eye, the lens seems to lose their stick. Then you can just pluck it off.
Been wearing glasses since grade 6.
Tried contacts a couple times.
berkeley that noise. It's about as natural as sticking your finger in your eye.
I'll keep my glasses.
Sometimes I wish I could wear contacts. Been wearing glasses since I had an eye injury when I was young. I was 23 then, now 59. A (supposedly) hydraulic specialist was working on my helicopter and I was helping him do the job. He was supposed to be teaching me. The pressurized canister he was using wouldn't take the pressure he was trying to put in it and it blew up. Found out later he was pressurizing the canister wrong. I was the lucky one. The gage hit him on the cheek bone and shattered it. I was blown back a bit and was almost blind for an hour or so. Only time I've been in an ambulance, took the other guy out in a medivac helicopter. Ended up with pits and scratches on the corneas, right eye taking the brunt of it. Eyes were sensitive to bright lights and fumes till I got glasses with a minor prescription. Had to get the glasses to maintain flight status in the military. Slight magnification on right eye (20/25) and a clear lens on the left (20/20 barely). Enough to keep me out of military flight school. Been wearing bifocals for a few years now, need stronger reading. Eye doc says can't wear contacts and lasek is out too. Now need glasses for closeup and far distance, in-between I don't need them.

Yabut, how does it compare to the vasectomy?
I tried for 15 years to get the Air Force to do LASIK on me. My astigmatism is outside of the correctable range and my prescription was always changing, so it never happened .
I started wearing glasses in the second grade. Contacts in 7th grade. Been wearing contacts ever since.
I also have an astigmatism and only need a lens on my right eye. My vision plan doesn’t cover monocles.
I'm pretty lucky with mine as I have the same minor correction for both eyes. Took me about six months to get used to them and still have the occasional day where they just don't seem to want to go in. The worst is taking them out while drunk and poking yourself in the eye when trying to remove the one you just took out two seconds before.

That's what's stopping me. I'm 46 and lucky enough that I don't wear any corrective devices day to day. However, I'm at the point where if I want to read a car magazine or a small bottle label, I need to wear glasses. I can still see my computer screen fine though, thankfully. I just can't see small print up close. I have dollar store reading glasses which work great for the limited times I need them. I'm just skeeved out at the idea of touching my eyes, and my blink reflex is super strong. My 14 year old has been wearing contacts since he was 11 or 12, and he laughs at me. I despise glasses, so I don't want to wear them daily, but not sure I can stick my finger in my eye every day either. Hoping that I'd be a LASIK candidate.
Glasses at 3, just turned 47, and tried contacts in HS. That experiment lasted about a month and then the glasses came back.
