Have you seen those E Bates TV ads? There's a guy and (I guess) his wife sitting on the couch, she is talking about getting $900 in rebate cash and he has this sorta blank look. The screen then flashes to a screen shot, if you look quick the average rebate is 5% of a given purchase although some are as low as 3.5%. A little math tells me that if she got 5% on every purchase then to get $900 in rebates she had to spend $18,000.00. 
No wonder he had a blank look. If it was something really needed then maybe it would be worth it, but of course they don't go into the details.
