In reply to chandler :
Not enough people in New Mexico (alive or dead) for that to really matter.
TIL that, in Canada, if a pedestrian is crossing outside of a marked crossing area, the vehicle has the right of way.
I shall act accordingly going forward. Or backward.
That meshes with the (so I am told) policy of finding a driver partially at fault if they do not have winter tires on during certain months. It's.... sensible.

You'd think, but if you asked 100 people I bet 100 of them would say the pedestrian always has the right of way. Because that is what we have been taught
In reply to Peabody :
Around here I learned, that As a pedestrian, I'd rather be alive than be right. Self preservation is a much needed instinct.
TIL.....that my wife likes Porsche Boxsters. This came out when some Miata club friends dropped by. The club president also owns a Boxster. I was talking to an ND owner and went for a test drive because I'm thinking about buying one. Turns out my wife was ogling the Boxster and told the owner she likes them. It was all news to me.....good news though.
Mexican Street Corn.
I've made it before, but my nephew's had a little Zing to it.
"Siracha flavored Cheetos in a blender, add Cilantro, Parmesan and a few others, mix with Mayonnaise and slather on ears of corn.
Well Dayum!
Allison DV-6840.
What's that?
It's two V-3420s connected to the same gearbox.
What's a V-3420?
It's two V-1710s mounted next to each other at a combined 90 degree angle.
Four crankshaft, 48 cylinders....
FYI - that is the reason VW is in so much trouble with their diesel engines emission software. I was told at our last State IM class that one of the VW tech's was doing an IM inspection at the dealership while DMV was there doing their annual audit and cleared the codes and ran the monitors without driving the vehicle!! That's what alerted the officials that VW was gaming the system. Most of the OEM's that allow service bay tests only show if the test would pass or fail - they don't change the monitor status until you complete the necessary drive cycles.

Yes, and look both ways while crossing a one way street...
TIL for about $30 you can buy a set of 41 construction equipment master keys on Amazon.
With the availability of things like this right now, how is every teenaged boy in America not in the process of being arrested and/or charged for unauthorized big yellow machine playtime? I know I would have been....

70's-90's Chryslers are about the same. My 81 d150 and my 88 Diplomat had the same key
In reply to chandler :
I once owned two Sentras, not even of the same generation, that were one pin off one location, and the locks were worn enough either would work in either car.
I remember a news story in the '70s that there were only something like 10 different key cuts for Cessna aircraft.
If you got the Nads, Goblessya!!!
There are only 4 key codes for Honda Goldwings; you can order yours on line by getting the # off the barrel.
TIL that the War Department ordered 500,000 Purple Hearts in 1945 as part of the buildup for the planned invasion of the Japanese mainland...
...and that they didn't have to reorder Purple Hearts until 2000. Even then it was only to allow for necessary distribution of inventory. About 60,000 of that 1945 order are in stock and ready to be awarded.
Did you know each Purple Heart metal holds one ounce of gold?
As a Veteran I get priority placement for Federal jobs, also the first 10 years I owned my house I didn't pay property taxes.
PH Recipients never pay school taxes. (in NY anyway).
In high school, I accidentally stuck my house key into the ignition of my dad's 1964 Chevy C-10 and it started right up. After that, I tried it with a screwdriver and that worked too.
Eventually I got to the point where I could start it using the edge of a dime.

When New York state rolled out the new inspection machines six or seven years ago, the inspection machine had a glitch where it didn't check monitor readiness for the first couple months. You'd fix a Check Engine Light, clear the codes, move it over to the inspection machine to get the customer a 10-day extension, and the machine would just pass the car. There were some other really strange bugs with that machine when it came out, including, hooking up a 2000-2002 Cadillac Deville would lock the machine up completely for like 2 and a half hours.

My friend Scott tells a story about the time he accidentally stole a Plymouth Acclaim from a mall. He had a Dodge Spirit at the time and went to the big mall in Syracuse at Christmas time. He came out and wasn't really paying attention, got in a car, started it up, pulled out of the parking lot and headed down the road. He went to make a lane change, looked in the mirror and saw a child's car seat, and he didn't have kids. He looked down at the steering wheel and realized he wasn't in his Spirit, he was in a Plymouth Acclaim. He went back to the parking lot, found his car, which was nowhere near where he had found the Acclaim, parked the Acclaim and then hopped in his Spirit and drove off.

I knew a guy with a '62 or '63 Chevy that he owned for 5 years and never had a key for. The LOCK position was one notch to the left of OFF, so as long as you never turned it past that point, you could restart it with anything.
Had multiple GM cars where the ignition wore out enough to turn without a key. Didn't even require having a heavy keychain full of keys to wear them out.
