I used to have one of those from my grandfather.

It was outright terrifying.

I wonder whatever happened to it?

TIL that Cars and Coffee crashes may not be entirely driver fault.

Moving a certain memeable Mopar today.  I nudged the throttle. I released the throttle.  The tires broke loose AFTER the throttle was released, and the engine took way too long to be comfortable to drop back to idle.  Maybe one, one and a half seconds of continuing to overpower the tires, but one second feels very long in that situation. Throttle response like a long distance call to a bungee cord.  Absolutely horrible.

That Gen III Hemi would look smart with four Weber IDAs bolted to the cylinder heads, though!  And would certainly improve the throttle "response".

A guy I autocross with talked about someone bringing a Miata to an autocross with a home-brewed Eaton blower setup, and they it mounted on the exhaust side with the throttle body on the inlet side of the blower, and then they had a fairly larger intercooler as well. He took it for a fun run and said it was equal parts frightening and frustrating to drive because it was the only car he ever experienced with on- and off-throttle boost lag. You hit the throttle, waited a second or two for it to make boost, then let off the throttle and waited a second or two for the intercooler and charge piping to depressurize.

In reply to NickD :

A Detroit local had that kind of setup on a Miata.  (Same guy who controlled the supercharged "CR-Vtec"  B20 in his Civic with an EEC-IV)

At rallycross, where knife edge throttle response is important.

You could hear the throttle snap shut and the engine would keep making power for interminable seconds...

I still don't know why he didn't blow through the throttle body, like a Thunderbird S/C did.  Or for that matter a Volkswagen G60.  With the right valving it is totally doable with a positive displacement supercharger.

That lag just doesn't make sense to me. That's kind of the point of a supercharger, ya know? Maybe a Paxton where it's a belt driven snail, but not Eaton. And not with the ability to use a BOV

TIL the serpent is said to represent the Visconti family, who were rulers of Milan in the 14th century and were known for their emblem of a serpent eating a man. The serpent in the Alfa Romeo logo is shown swallowing a man or a human figure, which is meant to represent the idea of victory over man’s weaknesses or limitations.

YIL (Yesterday I Learned) about "catalog builds". Apparently it's a thing with certain parts of the JDM crowd to throw every part from one and only one aftermarket parts manufacturer (usually a well known Japanese one like Spoon, Mugen etc) at your build.

I guess it's one of those "hey, if it makes you happy and gets you scene points" things that this grumpy old fart doesn't fully understand anymore.

If there is one thing the Japanese are good at, it is taking an idea and extending it to the physical limit, far past any sort of practical reality.

Today I learned the insane value of old motorcycle memorabilia.   So I had a guy today in passing ask if I was my father's son (same name).  So I say yea and we start to talk about pops and what I have of his.  My dad was a high ranking guy in a let's say roving band of motorcycle enthusiasts to put it nicely.   This dude offered huge money for some of his old stuff that I wouldn't want to get caught with if I had no affiliation.   Just blew my mind that this guy would ask for this stuff and then offer huge money (10k for a list of stuff he was looking for).

I guess with AMG you could buy the parts, but I think Ruf wouldn't sell you the parts other than maybe wheels. So a bit similar, if all the AMG parts showed up at your house and you had the local shop put them on the car.

Potentially?  I suppose it depends on the use.  At least with RUF you're buying a re-manufactured total package.

I admit that I assume anybody in America that has a JDM Honda with the entire Spoon catalog bolted to it is more likely to be hard parking than running track days or time trials.

Wackiest eye injury I heard of was a friend's father who cut his eyeball with a flake of coconut. Yes, I'm serious. He opened a cupboard and a bag of coconut flakes fell out at him, he instinctively closed his eyes, but a flake had already landed in his eye and gave him a paper cut on the eyeball

The last needle stuck in my eye was by an intern under the supervision of the specialist.  The hardest part was the "five second" procedure that ended up taking about 15 seconds as the young doctor took great care (thankfully) to do it accurately.  Compared to the other needles in my eye, this one was the most difficult, mentally :)

Sorry about your retina -- I've had both a tear, and am currently recovering from a detachment.  I'm grateful for modern medicine that allows my sight to be saved, but I'd like to be done with it all.
