News says he's still alive.
Apparently someone at the LAPD got over-excited and talked to the media.

Here Comes my Girl will be played at my someday wedding. That song says more than I could. But I can say it with a little help from Mr. Petty.
I heard on the radio that they pulled life support. Doesn't mean he passed......yet. Just means he's on his own. If he pulls through then great. If not, well another joined the big concert. Do enjoy his music and did enjoy his videos. Last dance with MaryJane was a great video, Kim Basinger in it didn't hurt either. It sucks, he's not a lot older than I am. Only 7 years. Kinda puts perception on it.
Doctors don't remove life support because there is hope.
My mom was on life support after her stroke last year; damn, exactly eleven months. While she wasn't technically brain-dead, she only had what was termed "primitive" activity. There was no hope of recovery so we made the decision to remove life support. The doctors and nurses would never say how long it would take for her to pass. Only that it varies and could be minutes, hours, days; you get the idea. It's only a matter of time.
RIP, Tom
"Runnin down a dream" and "Room at the top of the world" kinda bookend his sound for me. Love those songs and almost all the others. Hoping for that 1% chance for recovery.
Tom Petty's death has been confirmed by Tony Dimitriades, longtime manager of Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers, on behalf of the family. He was 66.
Well, she was an American girl, raised on promises.
Such a simple line, but it says so much about so many.

That was a damned good article. Thanks.
The 4 hour 19 minute documentary on Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers on Netflix will probably be showcased now.
In reply to RossD :
I re-watched that movie within the last year. It is long, but I enjoyed it both times I've watched it.
He sure left a lot of good music for us to listen to, so there is that. RIP.
What's saddest to me was that Tom's last albums were some of his best. Mojo might be my favorite album he's ever made, and Hypnotic Eye was almost as good. "Power Drunk" and "Shadow People" were 100% relevant in today's political climate. He still had something to say...to quote a Wilburys lyric. He was never past his prime. I miss him already.
