IT's easy to make jokes from over here, but remember it's a British TV show and in the UK he's been a household name for over 25 years.
He's arguably better know and more liked than Clarkson although no where near as controversial or polarizing which is probably what they want right now. I'm not saying I think it will work out. I'm sure it wont be half the show the old 'new' (2002 and up) top gear was.

The point being that it got a lot better when it stopped aping the original show so closely and found it's own way. It's all challenges now, no in-studio stuff, no SIARPC, no Jessica, no hot laps, none of that.

I actually like Chris Evans a lot. I think he'd be fine, if it weren't for the baggage involved with the whole Top Gear identity. It's really a shame that he'll inevitably get trampled by the millions of rabid fans who will Accept No Substitute.

Who in their right mind watches two seasons of a TV show that they don't like in the small hope that it will get "better"? That would be pathetic.

By the time I gave up (3-4 episodes over two seasons) the cast would have had to self immolate to keep me watching the show. Maybe a defenestration challenge?

Maybe I will have another look based on the recommendation. Not like there is anything else on TV.

Honestly it seems contrived quite a bit, especially since every time they have a challenge where the winner drives a supercar Tanner wins. But honestly until this latest series TGUK seemed very contrived also.

The one with gingervitus is the new host, they would never cast Cap as a ginger.....it would then be seen as an oxymoron.

Dude, you've got it all wrong. If we discount those pesky indigenes people who came across the bering land bridge 16,500 years ago, we all know that it wasn’t that Italian working for the Spanish who discovered the America’s, it was Erik the Red, a red haired Norse man gone Viking. So, the true captain America should be a red head!
