Living in the desert with a toddler, we're constantly subjecting the little to the blind sun in our hatchback.
I can go pretty dark in AZ on the rear and rear side windows, but 35% is the limit up front.
I noticed there are some producers of Photochromic Window Tint Film. Basically, it's transition lenses for your car.
Thing is, nobody seems to install this stuff. Very few seem to actually use it. Is it just a case of a bad product, a new product, or something else I'm missing?

I'm just having a mild tint and paint protection film installed on the Alfa. The tint guy mentioned the existence of the photochromic film, but in his opinion it doesn't have the longevity yet that he'd like to see before recommending it to people.
It would still be illegal if the sun drove it above 35%, wouldn't it?

You might be able to roll down the windows when someone you get pulled over to try to get them to lighten up.

I don’t see why not - laws about tinting don’t mention what causes it just that it exists

That's not how they test window test.
And typically window tint is a secondary offense, IE, they can't pull you over for it, but once they have pulled you over for something else they can test the opacity of your tint. At least thats how it is in Oklahoma.
Interesting. Having tinted one vehicle, I'm not a fan because of the loss of visibility in low light situations. This could solve that nicely if it works. I suspect it only darkens to some maximum level determined by the composition. I know the transitions lenses never got as dark as real sunglasses back in the day, but that may have changed.
I'm thinking of having the back of the car done to the maximum level, then maybe getting some of this photochromic film for the front windows. Not sure yet.

Do yourself a favor and order from StealthTint.com they have transition window tint thats made directy in the USA. I bought & installed it myself. It was the exact size as my own car's windows too. Good Luck!
