Founded by BuickTR-7, and made famous by Den, this thread was a hit on the old board, spanning 62 pages.
I thought it might be cool to start it up again. So here's an easy one to kick things off. (Just to be clear, first person to answer the question correctly has to post the next question.)
Which muscle car design was inspired, in part, by a mako shark caught by the designer while deep sea fishing?

That'd be correct. Floor is yours John Brown.
What racing legends first victory was a midget race at Playland Park (Houston, Texas) in 1953?

Hah! I be smart.
What major change to the engine did Mitsubishi make between the Evo III and Evo IV, and what was its purpose?
J
They turned the engine sideways to help with weight distribution and to eliminate torque steer.
Wasn't the engine already sideways? I think you mean they turned it around, so it were on the other side of the engine bay.
Poop. I got it wrong. I meant going from standard layout to transversally mounted. Thanks for the clarification.

Ya, John's got it. It was always transverse but they flipped it around 180° to put its centre of gravity was behind the front wheels.

In 1748 a man coined a term that describes an item in use in every car that we drive. We would be powerless without it.
What is the item? What was the name of the man?
the battery ? invented by allessandro volta?
Volta devised a system for igniting gases using an electric spark.
Voltas work was 52 years after this guy coined the term. The term HAS been mentioned in this thread.
Also it was first coined to describe an array of charged glass plates.
Strizzo was close, Salanis, not so much.
Oh, probably then it's a battery, and that term was given by Ben Franklin to an array of Leyden jars that formed a crude capacitor.
I don't think that was in 1748 though.

Salanis has the mic.
Great... my knowledge of automotive trivia is less than my search abilities.
Okay, (I'm sure people will find this easy, but it's been on my mind lately):
This car ran in the CanAm racing series only in 1970 racing season. Its technology was quickly outlawed by the SCCA (who caved to pressure from other racing teams), after having been initially approved.
What was the car and team that ran it?
Alfa Romeo BT46B on the Brabham team! (Fan car)
Not the answer I'm looking for. But you're closer than I originally thought. The Alfa Romeo BT46B was banned in '78 from F1, not '70 from CanAm.
I refuse to answer this one even though I know the answer.
Nope, I ain't that sucker.

Mostly right. Which car? Should be easy enough at this point. I'm heading out to lunch, so the mic is now your's.
The 2J.
Which country banned motorsport tracks? What was the reason for the ban?
