How the berkeley do you animals eat berkeleying bagels!?
I'd rather eat old worn out shoe leather.

Well gravy isn't supposed to be brown water, so i dont know what you're on about.
It's not supposed to be white, peppery glop with sausage bits swimming in it either..
Au jus is brown water, blame that on the french.

Doc...
You sure you're not from the Republic of Western Canada?
Pizza for me can go a million ways. Its all about the sum of its parts. Except for some weird E36 M3 they eat out east, got sweet sauce on it. If I wanted dessert, I'd get a goddamn ice cream. Gravy, if it ain't home made, it ain't gravy. The best gravy I have ever had (and I've had a lot of gravy) was made by a little old woman in north Carolina. It was made from rendered down tenderloin fat, bacon, spices, cream, flour and I E36 M3 you not, a cup of Folger's. I don't know what the hell happened.when the coffee got in there or how she learned it, but it.was berkeleying magical.
Hey if you need to take a break take one. It's good to change things up in life a bit and get out of your comfort zone.
Honestly this is the only forum I frequent on a weekly basis. Not only because I love the magazine but most of it's staff are great people as well. This forum opened my mind up to different makes and models of cars and doesn't criticize me for doing stuff out of the box. It caused my dad and I to build a car for their yearly challenge. Most people are pretty knowledgeable as well and usually answer a question when posed in a new thread. Unlike forums like LS1tech and NASIOC where you are lambasted for asking a question. Or the hell hole that is VWvortex or Honda-tech. This place is like a close family and I really enjoy it.
You'll have the stubborn, the pissy pants, the turd burglars, the negative nancies, etc. in all walks of life the best thing to do is just ignore them and don't waste time fretting over it. I've been on that path the past few years and life is much more enjoyable and easy going.

I am pretty sure that The Turd Burgler was the original name for the character between Grimace and The Mayor McCheese

You've probably never had a bagel. More than 70 miles from Manhattan all you get is some awful, round chunk of white bread.
Same for pizza but the radius grows to about 100 miles.
To the OP, do what makes you happy.
As a newer forum member, its interesting to see how this single thread reveals a lot of the history of this forum but the distinct culture it has.
I will say, the best pizza is original Naples style thing crust.
Costco pizza.
For that matter, everything Costco. Chocolate muffins. Jar of chocolates from around the world (blowing through a jar now). Lobster bisque. Giant stainless steel rolling tool cabinets (These appear to be seasonal. Love mine.). I even liked their soda while they had it.

Giant thimgs of Himalayan rock salt. Steaks as thick as my arm. An endless.supply of Mexican sugar coke. Beef jerky by the cow. So many good things.
Mmmmm... pizza... mmmmm. I'm a Godfather's fan myself but it's not real common in these parts.
OP, as a longtime member of this board I can understand what you are talking about. Let me mention that while yes there have been some internet bitch slap sessions on here such as the one started by (Margie will probably smite me for mentioning this name! ) worksgarage and AaronBalto which resulted in some scorched earth, Per Schroder had to ban two people for similar activity, for the most part (I'd say 99.9%) this board is genial and friendly.
By and large this forum is one of the cleanest and most informative ones out there. I could start naming off some others I frequent which, while informative, are nowhere near as n00b friendly as this one. The best part of the GRM board is it is self policing to a large extent.
If someone comes on board then starts acting inappropriately, they get a friendly 'hey, you are welcome to stay and contribute but be aware there are certain standards that we are all expected to meet'. The most recent one I can remember is somebody who started out with a very inappropriate avatar, sorry I can't recall the username but AFAIK he still posts here. While we guys appreciate the female form nudity is not allowed. The avatar got changed pretty quickly.
The political stuff is quite low key compared to some other boards out there, too. Don't let it run you off!

red eye gravy has coffee as part of the recipe … while thinner than I like … since it comes from country ham, that means I'm ok with it .. since I love country ham
white cream sausage gravy is the E36 M3S ….
brown gravy made from beef/lamb is to die for mixed in with some mashed potatoes

I think its a hybrid of red eye and sausage gravy. All I know is its berkeleying delicious. I don't ask a lot of questions about the food out there. Its better that way. I do need to get my hands on a country ham though....

And from what I've experienced, this forum is fairly female friendly. Although we don't seem to have as many women participate as the MINI forums I've been on (likely due to the large percentage of female MINI owners), I've only seen women here treated with respect.
For me, this forums incredible diversity is what keeps me coming back. Plus, I really get the impression the average user-age is much older than most car-oriented forums, which I think also helps with keeping things civil.
Around here you can tell the city transplants from the true country folk by the way they pronounce bagel. City folk call it a bay-gul. Country folk call it a bagg-ul.
Pizza? I no longer participate.

True. It's funny how misogyny can rear its ugly head on some forums. I'm not sure why it happens but I won't participate, I'll just bow out of the discussion at that point. Believe me, I have learned the hard way if someone tries to ask the misogynistic types to tone it down that's just an open invite for them to get even worse.
Red eye gravy is WAY too salty for me, as is country ham. Bleagh. Now, good ol' homemade brown gravy on mashed 'taters... mmm. Yum.
Pizza is Nature's most nearly perfect food; if made properly it has all 4 major food groups represented. Bread, dairy, veggies and meat. So think of a supreme pizza with everything as health food.

Well there's your problem. I've never had a good white gravy. It will always have a little color to it from browning the flour. The best sausage gravy is sort of white with a brownish tinge to it. The more you brown the flour the browner the gravy. Gravy should be more like a roux and less like au jus.

It all depends on how you reduce. Slow and low. Goes for mirepois too. Mine come out the color of beef gravy most of the time, but I make a bomb soup.
Au jus has its place, that ain't my smashed taters though. With a French dip sammich, yeah. In fact onion soup is real good with that sammich too.

I was raised in an Irish/Welsh home where a scone was heralded as a treat. I can enjoy a mouthful of cold desert sand as a result.
