I used to be on many different, model-specific forums. Currently, this is the only one I check on a more than monthly basis, and I typically check in every day. This is a great community, period. Sure, the tone has changed a bit but it's definitely fixable with a little effort from each of us.

mEH... it's entertainment. I find the morons that stand there (or sit there) while he does some silly E36 M3 in an overpowered death trap around/towards them. THose people have my respect!

Hi all. Said in jest, totally cool. :)
Y'all are right, this is an exceptionally cool community, even to newbs, and we're unusually collegial to each other, in person and on the forum. I've been to a Challenge and 2 GRM Experiences and had a great time. Guess it was an off day and I forgot to ignore the posters I usually ignore. Back to our regularly scheduled car nerdery.

Did we really just save you from the brink?
WTF NOOB, DO SURCH AND GFY
nice to have you back!
Honestly, I haven't even noticed this change in tone that I'm hearing about, though I have to say that I don't usually read past the first page of a political thread.

Not because I give a crap what the grammar Nazis think.
Because I would like to communicate reasonably well, and sometimes when I re-read it, I realize it just doesn't sound like whatever the heck was in my head. OR, my (blankety-blank) spell check on my mobile phone has decided it is time for it to express its opinion and indwell my writing like a poltergeist.
It takes a moment, but I feel better about what I post. Still miss the mark sometimes, but at least I try.
Seriously, what, where and how?

I always wonder about posts like this one. Does the OP think they are helping to change something or are they just seeking attention? It seems that every forum gets their share of "I'm quitting" posts and it is always interesting to see how often the OP sticks around to see what the result of their post was. I'm never sure if we are supposed to beg and plead them not to leave or ignore them all together. I can understand not checking in as much with a particular forum because you no longer like it, but I really don't understand the need to create drama with an attention seeking post about your precious feelings.
That being said, I do hope that mr cones are two seconds comes back at some point, because this place has a wealth of knowledge to offer on all sorts of topics (car related and not). He will be missing out and the more people that are here, the more there is to learn.

So I guess that makes them respectable morons?

If you can turn it on, that means you can turn it OFF! (happy dance)
I also only just now noticed the typo in the title, which made me smile
In all seriousness, this thread and the one regarding the passing of parents have caused me to reflect and cry a bit the past 2 days, and I want to thank the board members for that. I've lived and currently live a blessed, amazing life though it certainly hasn't been without it's struggles. I have an amazing career, dream job for most, and a beautiful wife, neither of which I'd have without the automotive community's support.
Personally, I come here as a refuge from most other forums. It's the place I like to be, others tend to be places I have to be. I've not noticed a change in tone, but I do stay out of political threads because they're tiresome - just like they are in real life.
The depth of knowledge and the friendliness here is unmatched.
I honestly don't have a problem with anyone here. Now, the forum software, on the other hand......

Amen. And that Yamaha charater.... and that harry ballsack/Swank Force/etc or whatever his name is this week. Those two should definitely GFT and DIAGDF. All the Ginger hate they dish out...they're pure evil. If I had a soul it'd be soul-crushing.
So far this seems to have been productive, maybe we should make it a tradition:

having been a member of car forums since they were bulletin boards....
The discussion about cars has gone from 95%+, to as little as 50%... Too much clic type stuff, be it politics, or discussions about unrelated subjects (guns, sex, booze, society, other hobbies, etc.) A car forum should be about cars....
Sometimes I struggle with the overall character of the people... and I'm SURE they struggle with mine.... so I try to be selective... and avoid those trigger issues of mine if I can... I also try to be aware of issues I tend to trigger in others....
I've been around here for.... 11 years?
Haven't noticed much change in tone overall, just that we're on that cycle right now where there's lots of political BS that some people just can't keep themselves from getting involved in.
And like always, there's a select few that could stand to learn some tact, but that's been a thing on the best of internet forums since well... the internet began.
I'm sure i've made people mad in the last year as i've changed my approach to how i ask questions on this forum. The one thing that annoys me to no end on here is the insistence that "Option C" exists during a thought exercise when i'm only weighing two options. Wasn't always that way.
But that's a small price to pay compared to the utter E36 M3 quality of almost every other forum.
Yeah I don't think there's any change in tone. If anything, things are more civil since we had the rule banning overtly political threads.

He flipped a car into the general direction of where I was sitting before, but I was a good 100ft+ away
(flip point is right in the upper-right corner of my avatar pic in fact)
