I think through a lot of that I was still just a lurker and not a poster. I can't remember much. I remember the tricycle guy, though, if it's the one i'm thinking of (the deathtrap with the frame clearly not designed by an engineer? That one?).
I've taken breaks from this forum and others. It almost never has to do with the forums themselves, but the waxing and waning of my particular interests over time and also how busy I am. I always return to GRM and a couple other forums. I like it here.
I felt welcomed even though I didn't show up with an LSx swapped anything. I showed up with a 1987 E-150 with curtains and brown stripes. Hell, i still haven't built anything car related, and I still have that van.

There was the Nazi dude and he who shall not.be named that pops up every so often as well. I had totally forgotten about Mguar. I guess I turned off my pay attention to crazy switch a while back. I guess it doesn't really matter. I've done battle with the worst of the worst. I hang out here. I like it. Sometimes I make jokes. It fun reading and posting. I think everyone here has people that rub them different. I'm sure there's a.line a half mile long to call me names. I don't really care.

In this case bought not built turned out to be the correct answer.

Trike guy was the one that thought he was going to get it federal dot certed, using square 1" tube stock for a frame and basically aiming all the sharp bits at your giblets. And when we tried to help a brotha out (though admittedly like jackasses sometimes) he went nuclear.

Yeah that's the one. I will say if I had one of those I would drive EXTREMELY carefully!
Something about castration-by-motorized-tricycle doesn't exactly sound fun...

Hey, I found Tricycle Dude (go3wheeler)'s thread:
http://grassrootsmotorsports.com/forum/build-projects-and-project-cars/three-wheel-car/71719/page1/
I liked that one DJ-whatever dude.
He was a weird combination of Miata.net and Hitler.
I must admit a couple of months ago I was in the mood as the OP. Several of my posts had some snotty replies. I would type out a long reply, just to re-read and delete it. Since then things have lightened up a bit.
Any thread that has any hint of religion or politics goes in the crapper pretty quickly.
I think this site is pretty mild by comparison. I got a spanking and temp ban on Maximia.org for some really stupid reason that I can't remember. I might have critised some guy who washed his car and posted pics of it.
I may on occaision post something about people not using punctuation. You do not have to buy periods.
I only remember MGuar and worksgarage 1 and 2 getting the boot. Totally do not remember snowdoggie getting it and don't remeber the tricycle guy.

I get trolly, especially with inaccuracy, but I try not be. I have noticed a change in tone as well. I remember one kid that everyone dog piled on because he wanted to street race something. Some were kind, many were not. We have a tendency as a forum for moderators and high profile posters to pick sides and allow/overlook/not notice abuses to others because we know them/disagree with the other persons opinions. Abuse is abuse. Don't tolerate it. Be civil and the forum will grow with new blood.
I have been on here I guess a little more than 5 years. The tone ebbs and flows. If I don't like it, I just hang back a little and it comes back the other way.
Glad to see you back, but your observations were spot on from my perspective.

He was one of the more interesting trolls, that's for sure.
Snowdoggie was posting political stuff after we were told ABSOLUTELY NO POLITICAL THREADS with about that much subtlety. I feel like he was made an example of but friends of mine on here saw him as deserving so who knows. I miss him. I miss Mguar' s insane amount of Jag knowledge but he had been through a fair amount of crap and wanted to scream loudly at everyone about it.

Huh, so that is what happened with snowdoggie.
Mguar was combative and thin skinned. He couldn't accept that he might not be right.
Wow, I had no idea that some of you felt that way about the hotlink thread.
I just looked at it like a guy who was unknown to us came into "our clubhouse" and told us what to do. It could have been handled much worse.

I definitely think snowdoggie was made an example of. Up to that point it took some serious crazy to get banned, then the whole political thing spun way out of control and he just wouldn't stop poking the bear. I figured it was a temp ban and he'd be back, so not sure if it was a perma ban or if he just decided not to come back.
I know I'm not perfect. Ive trolled people before and will probably do it again. I actually did legitimatly offer to help trike guy.
I think the certain users get away with abuse is spot on. If enough people have a similar opinion it makes discussion of the differing opinion less likely and mockery and abuse more accepted. Ive deffinately felt the eecieving end of that. I think its particularly bad on the "lighten up Francis" subjects. People bring up legitimate issues that could be discussed and the same 5-10 people come along and lighten up the thread making the thread about how overly sensitive and weak the OP is rather than discussion of issues.

Man, I'd forgotten that thread. That Keith dude can be a dick.
Ok, I just saw this is 6 pages long.
But my $.02 on Mguar was that he only had Jag V12 knowledge and some Jag XJ knowledge. I asked him a question about the Inline-6 and he straight out told me he had no experience in those engines.
Don't forget that he was also the one that made the board use the word "Flounder" for about a year. He was very well known in starting political conspiracy theory type stuff. You could post a thread about cooking baked beans and he would make some 7 paragraph rant about how the government poisons the baked bean supply to make us watch more TV or some crap.
...the government poisons the baked bean supply to make us watch more TV...
Great Zeus' Beard!? Yesterday I ate some of Bush's Boston Style Baked Beans and binge watched almost the whole season of the new Doctor. Coincidence?

That's because you're so full you can't make yourself get up and change the channel. See, there's a rational explanation for everything.

We didn't want associated with the negative image if anything had happened. Strangely, that was one of the few times the board was nearly unanimous in its view.
We're all different, all have different experiences, different views, but for the most part we can tolerate or actually get along with one another.

I'm just pissed because I don't know how to hot link. Never, not once.
