I think a lot of people on this forum have raced on the street at one time or another. Most just don't get online and brag about it. Now about 5 seconds after I post this someone is going to get all bent and go on a rant about how they would never do that and how dare I call them a street racer... Lol.

I'm just pissed because I don't know how to hot link. Never, not once.

Right click on image you wish to share, click "copy image location."

Then type CTRL-V/or right click - paste [/i mg]

Remove the space between "i" and "m."

Or just click the camera icon above your post and paste the image location.

I'm a bit late to this thread, but from my point of view, it's a pretty mild place. Sure people can get a bit testy, but for the most part, I don't know of a better behaved group of people on the internet. Seriously, even the climate thread is not that contentious, but it sure could be given the passion around that subject.

Where else are you going find people that love Chevettes, Jeeps, P71's, BMWs and Miatas all in the same place...and all in agreement they need an LS swap?

Its just finding interesting pictures elsewhere on the internet and posting them here.

So you can go to Google.com and type in something interesting that you want to search on and hit return (or click search) and then you can view the results in image form by clicking on "Images"

Once you find an image that you want to share, click on it to bring it up, click on "View Image" and the resulting address in the address bar is what you need to select and copy to post on the board here.

Once you have that address or URL copied you can come here to post in your favorite thread (or start a new one) and click on the little camera icon above the text box:

In the drop down box you paste in that address you copied earlier and then click on OK

Now add any text you want and click "Add Post"

I'm new here (~3 months including lurking). I'm new to motorsports in general. I took the SCCA Starting Line AutoX school in August (my father used to track race and AutoX before I was born) and with that school came a subscription to GRM. I enjoyed the magazine so I starting reading the forums, and eventually signed up. I quickly realized how smart, and how much experience many of the forum members have (I am much younger than the vast majority of the forum members. I do not have a ton to offer in terms of knowledge, but I try to help if I can). I have learned so much and have had my own vehicle issues solved in my short time here. This place has treated me well (but I am the type of person who usually avoids conflict).

Just thought maybe some might be interested in a newbie's perspective on this community. I think GRM is a great place to be able to learn from those who have more experience than you, and associate with those who have similar interests.

I invented flounder. That was me, and I'm not letting credit go to some random jackass.

Shia LeBouf did an interesting art piece where he sat in a gallery and allowed people to come in and say anything to him and even do stuff like hit him or throw stuff. He admitted that he did some stupid things that made people angry, and was taking a beating online, so this was his way to let people vent their frustrations in person. He found that it was much harder for people to be so incredibly mean in person.

The internet provides anonymity and protection from retaliation. It also provides a soapbox for some, a pulpit for others, and a stage for many. You have to ignore the haters because they are not going away and you have to remember that everyone falls to the temptation occasionally. Focus on the positive and don't engage the negative.

Great Zeus' Beard!? Yesterday I ate some of Bush's Boston Style Baked Beans and binge watched almost the whole season of the new Doctor. Coincidence?
That's because you're so full you can't make yourself get up and change the channel. See, there's a rational explanation for everything.

They also put a secret chemical in there that makes you crave it fortnightly.

We had a particular Miata guy who hated us. No idea why, he was just very anti-FM all the time and he was pretty high-profile. We met him in person at the Mitty - I knew what he looked like, so when I saw him lurking around near the turbo install we were doing I (or Bill) made sure to say hi. I don't know if he discovered we didn't really have horns or what, but his attitude totally changed about us. We still disagree about things occasionally - heck, he works for a sometimes competitor now! - but it's with mutual respect. Biggest turnaround I've ever seen from a real-life meeting. Changing from an anonymous online entity to an actual person can make a big difference.

We didn't want associated with the negative image if anything had happened. Strangely, that was one of the few times the board was nearly unanimous in its view. We're all different, all have different experiences, different views, but for the most part we can tolerate or actually get along with one another.

Street racer guy was saying his skill was so high it eliminated the dangers. Seemed to feel immune from physics. Then for disagreeing with him he tried to rally his friends to do donuts on my friends lawn and to harass any of us they saw in traffic. Fortunately he seemed to be the biggest shiny happy person in his crew and nothing came of it.

True and I was one of the ones that said don't do it, but there was more than one post that offered no constructive criticism or an answer the OPs original question about suggested mod and just blast him about street racing.

The rest of my comments were in reference to other threads and instances. That one just stuck out as a particularly good example of us being rude to a newbie.

I just read this thread. I slightly remember it beginning but I likely stayed away from it even before it exploded when I realized it was not my center of expertise.
I do think the thread does a good job of also pointing out what is good about this place. 3Wheeler was getting very sound advice from people/resources he would likely ever have genuine access to.

I have been surprised myself on a number occasion who I am actually talking to and I have surprised a couple here as well when they figured out what I could get done for them.
A couple years back, I brought immediate, top-down resolution to another here with trouble he had with a major corp over a situation where he met every roadblock.

Thanks for bringing back the memories.

I've been lurking here for about 6 years, and that's the only really bad situation that I've been witness of.

But then, I usually try to stay out of political/religion/global warming/other crap threads.

I also realise that I'm a (the only?) French Canadian to post on this forum, so whenever I read some bad joke/comment/etc, I just try to ignore it. This is the internet after all.

And on the flip side, I've seen plenty of threads (separation, deaths, legal troubles, etc) where the people were very supportive. Which is something you really don't see that much these days.
