In before the re-lock.
I've been ignoring this thread since I was pretty sure it would end up being a global warming rant, but I was shocked to see child tax credits being discussed.

This times 5000.
Much like we are seeing in California with the wildfires burning through forests where the forestry service has kept low level minor fires from getting out of control far decades. They are now positively FULL of fuel for the fires which we are now seeing. Had we allowed smaller fires to clear the debris occasionally, things wouldn't be bad now. Now apply that same logic to modern medicine. We give antibiotics for the sniffles enough times and when the wildfire of disease strikes next, we as a species are in for a good and thorough berkeleying. For those who survive it will be a rough row to hoe. Beneficial to the species, but traumatic. Aren't I just a bundle of laughs?
They do make for quite the metaphor, don't they?
Earth is a closed system. Period. Barring three or four major discoveries/breakthroughs, this place. Is. It.
To be honest, I would not doubt if the next major conflict (aka WWIII) is over pollution, either directly or indirectly.
Guys
I need you all to just stop for a moment. Take some deep breaths and ponder the following.
If you want to play with matches in your own house that is your prerogative. If you want to burn you and your own house down. Go for it.
BUT. Setting the entire sub division on fire is not cool. At the very less it is an inconveniences to others who are going about there business and at worst causes irreparable collateral damage destroying a community.
I am deeply troubled by some posts over in a thread started by Marjorie. Not only were there posts there that were direct attacks on her but also what appeared to be a complete lack of respect for the owner of this wonderful corner of the internet provided by GRM. I was truly disgusted by what I was seeing.
So please step back and think. Is winning on the internet worth paying the ultimate price of burning down the GRM community as we know it? I for one don't think it is but from what I have seen in the last 24 hours here leads me to believe that others may think it is or are oblivious to what they are perpetuating.
So I will say it again. Please, everyone step back from the keyboard and ponder the collateral damage that very well could be comming.
Dang, I don't check GRM for the weekend only to realize that after the cops went home everyone started to party and no one invited me.
I'm that guy :(
+1 on the foster care comment above. Anything we can do to incentive adoption is an EXCELLENT idea.
Also,, I tend to lean more on the granola / tree hugger side but here is a video about world population that I thought was interesting.Basically we are guaranteed a jump to ~11 billion but it should stabilize after that.

that's the part of "global warming" …. to use the inappropriate term, that most fold seen to NOT get … it's a continuing thing … sometimes with an upward slant …as now, and sometimes with a downward slant, as with the ice ages
