Please keep the people at University of Alabama Huntsville in your thoughts. I have spent all night up with one of my friends who was in the building when the shooting occur. It is going to be a rough week at school.

Was that really over a teacher not getting her tenure? My in-laws live in Huntsville, and that's what they told us the news was reporting.

Yes. Some of my friends had been working with Dr. Bishop on a project until a week ago when they decided to cut it off for ethical reasons i.e. she was trying to patent technology that they developed with out giving them credit.

My stepson was the first paramedic on the scene, had to be escorted in by swat as they hadn't apprehended the shooter and didn't know how many there were yet. His description I won't re-tell here, but I don't know how he doesn't have nightmares about things like this. That's one job I could never do. His description about the ones that were saved is unbelievably amazing. This woman knew how to shoot and was very accurate.

Very sad....

Also, my sister used to teach there and knew some of them I believe too.

The good news in this if there is any, is that response time by all involved was excellent.

So the woman shoots her brother back in the 80's and later is suspected of mailing a pipe bomb to her professor when she was working on her PhD, neither time is she accused much less convicted of anything.

I wonder if she thought she was going to get away with this too?

racerdave, let your stepson know we all appreciate his work.

Having actually attended one of these incidents way back in the day, I feel for all first responders, they are going to need help to deal with the senselessness of the whole deal.

First thing to understand, do not try to make sense of it, it makes none so don't try.

I signed up text message alerts in case of emergency and I never got them from the school and neither did any of my friends. The first thing any of my friends heard from the school was an email an hour and half after it happened. I am so thankful for the first responders and police from what I heard from my friend that was in the building they did a great job.

Thanks TJ, I will pass that along. For a 27yo he's very mature and responsible, I'm very proud of him. His wife is an ER nurse so they dealt with this on both ends.

He talked to his Mom right after he got off on Friday, so no matter what you do for a living, it seems you still need to talk to your mother after a hard day.

96DXCivic, from what I understand this is handled by a contractor. I'm sure it will need to be looked at as to why it took so long to get that out, otherwise what's the point, right?

Having gone to UAH way back when, I can assure you this is something you never think about happening there.

When a tornado went over UAH we never got notified either. I hope the hockey games aren't canceled this weekend. We could use our spirits lifted.
