This time of year I consider an umbrella an essential for autocross events.
Most of the time it's not specifically for rain, but for dealing with the summer sun. That said, Florida is known for weather extremes, and I need something that will stand up to high winds. Sometimes it rains sideways here.
Honestly I just get cheap ones and use them as needed; I've never seen or known of an "expensive" one.
But Kingsman had it right, every man needs one.

I'm currently using an old "golf" umbrella, which I think just indicates a somewhat larger size. It's old, and wasn't new when I acquired it; I think it was abandoned somewhere and I picked it up. It's beginning to get tears in the nylon, and will need replacement.
I'm asking because I have some newer ones that just collapse in winds over 10-15 MPH. I've used my old one in the sideways rain storms and it's held up. I need a quality product.

We used to use golf umbrellas when we autocrosses, too. Generally found them to be more robust to bad storms than the small ones.
You ain't made of sugar. You won't melt.
I've used the same golf umbrella for years. I'll have to check the brand, but it's fairly light for its size and is vented so it won't collapse in the wind.
Down there in God's Waiting Room, I'd check Goodwill, etc for some vintage but rarely used golf umbrella

LOL.
It's mostly about sun, not rain. I've raced horses in all kinds of weather, including snow, temperatures over 100°, and rain (including two hurricanes). I was in my mid-thirties before I had my first indoors job. I can handle bad weather, but I've also had skin cancer.
I tend to go for cheaper ones as they get lost or someone steals it. If it disappears, not much $$ is lost.
Repel Windproof Travel umbrella. It is compact, strong and not expensive.

Good tip, I'm going for the Repel golf umbrella. Compact isn't necessary, and a big canopy is useful.
