Past superbowls aside, I really have a feeling that there will be a few calls that will change the post season landscape this year. NFL officiating has been questionable in the past, but this season, with everything happening with the refs union, I see trouble.
With scabs doing the work that the really educated guys used to do...I do not have faith that the replacements will get the job done.
Well, Pittsburgh's used to overcoming the BS calls. We play rough, so we're always a target. It's just part of the game. Whining about it doesn't change the "L" to a "W." But yeah, the "replacements" have already shown a propensity for berkeleying it up.

All I have to add is that the Pats shouldn't have even been in position to kick that possible game winning field goal yesterday. But how the hell does one of the most reliable kickers in the game miss that one? I am really getting tired of football though. Over the past few years now that I have a DVR I watch the games on delay,and find that I am fast-forwarding more than watching. I can't get over the amount of commercials, and stupid stoppages the game has. It seems for a 3 hour + broadcast there is only maybe 20 minutes of real action.
I am really a hockey guy through and through, but they are taking that away from me as well this year so far. I love that there is no way to kill the clock in that game, and there is no out-of-bounds. I actually found myself watching a MLS game on Saturday between the Seattle team, and Portland team. Man I don't really understand the game, and I know the MLS is not true fotbal/soccer, but that atmospere in Portland made me wish I were there. Seemed like a full on party the whole match with the spector of a full on soccer hooligan outbreak at a minimum being that the game was in the US.
I drink, and therefore piss, a lot while watching football, so the breaks don't bother me. There was one agonizingly long stretch with no commercial break where I strarted to consider wearing Depends on Sundays from now on.

The horrible officiating is having an extremely negative effect on the game.
Defenders now know that they can get away with P/I on nearly every play....so they are holding, grabbing and all over receivers.
O-line guys are holding on nearly every play
Q-backs are used to the officials being top-notch, but are now getting into trouble when they expect a call......as none comes.
The lack of proper officiating is causing the players to play differently, and it's causing harm to the game. The NFL should buck-up, realize that the "real" refs are essential to putting out a good product and pay them. Not to mention the safety concerns that are coming out. When the refs miss calls, the players will take advantage and cheat as much as they are allowed to.
Who knows what scumbags like Green Bay's Hawk will do if cheap shots aren't punished.

That Denver/Atlanta game was downright painful to watch. It's the first game in a while I've simply turned off because it was so bad. Reffing, the players, the coaches, everyone was just behaving like children. This ref thing needs to end yesterday.
Damn. Not having seen the atl/den game, I haven't seen any drastic change in behavior, and I watch a silly amount of foozeball. I wonder how much of this is the commentators/ESPN playing this up and how much of it is real. I know Pittsburgh has been both unjustly berkeleyed with (James Harrison,) and given a pass (Hines Ward) so much that nothing really surprises me anymore. I love watching the line, and see a ton of holds, facemasks, etc, that never get called while most folks are glued on the QB or RB/Receiver.
There was some bad enforcement of the penalties. I believe it was the last drive of the first half and the refs were spotting the ball on the wrong yard line.
