I was caught in a freeway rush hour car accordion event totaling my beloved G37.  Had to get a car and fast.

Found one, withheld to protect the innocent, right before Christmas.  Was at a smaller used car dealership.  The initial sales guy I dealt with was great.  The one that called me in to pick up the car claiming everything was done, finance wise, was done are ready, one of the strangest people I ever met.

First he showed me his switchblade, told me about pulling guns on people on the gold course, I could go on and on.  He was painfully obviously trying to avoid talking price on the car.  I finally got tired and caved in, on one contingency.  Not only was the financing not done as he told me, he quoted me a ridiculous rate.   I took it at asking contingent on his rate.  I figured eventually a grown up would call and we could start talking price.  Besides, he gave me a car with no money out of my pocket and at worse I saved some rental car fees if it fell apart.

Fast forward about a week ago, they finally called me to let me know they couldn't get the rate and I would need to get it from my bank.  I got financing, not as his super low rate, and got back to him.

I started to talk pricing.  He didn't want to, I went back to the contingency and they would not talk pricing without me coming back to the dealership.  They have short hours and I don't feel I need to take off work to go talk out the door price.

Has this happened to anyone?  I have the paperwork for the car, they sold it to me contingent, so technically, the deal is off.  How long can I keep it before they tow it?  LOL, am I wrong for thinking they can come pick it up from me and I don't need to deliver?

Very weird deal you got yourself into here. If I woke up and found myself in your situation, I'd do whatever it takes to separate myself from these guys, the car and their tactics. And yes, even if that means you do the right thing, take some time off work, and deliver the car back to them.

I have been the car biz for many, many years, I would make one last phone call and if things are not hammered out  I would return the car and walk away.

I wouldn't even give them one last phone call, other than to say, "OK, the car's all yours." Get a rental and find a dealership where a comparing their staff with snakes is not an insult to snakes.

Yeah. Return the car and run. Run far far away.

I would think the OP would have to try a "good faith" event showing that he tried to complete the deal before walking away. Might be worth looking over the paperwork and

I'd walk as well.

Keep copies of the paperwork.

You'll need to log in to post.
