The SEMTEC-D is a good set up. We've used it, and I have bought two SEMTECs for our use. We don't use it that much anymore, though. Still, a good set up, if used correctly.

I'm not seeing how this would help that much. I go through less than 5 gallons of oil a year, more like 500 gallons of 87 octane. My used oil ends up used as chainsaw bar oil.

Yes, it's very much apples-oranges, but the people who get 80's benzes or other old vehicles pretend that they are doing something really great for the enviornment, just by burning 10% less fuel, but since the gas emissions are 20x higher, the net result it a LOT worse. THAT IS MY PROBLEM. 80's cars converted to WVO for environmental reasons. Total BS. You really think that the small amount of gas you keep from being drilled (and it's effects) is offset by your gasious emissions, I very, very much disagree with that. If you want to stand on "I'm a cheap bastard, so I want to burn free oil"- go for it. But if you want to *barely* claim that it's something that's good for the enviornment, you are very, very wrong. As for the increased SMOG- where? Most places in the US, smog has gone down, just not as low as some think it should be. Europe has a smog problem- but they also have diesel that is 1 euro cheaper (or has been) so there's a ton of pre-emissions diesels running around, as well as more lax standards for diesel. Just call yourself cheap, and be happy that you are cheap. You are not being environmentally friendly.
Read my other posts. I never claimed I'm doing this to save the earth. I'm being cheap and grassroots. We can argue numbers you know nothing of all day but the fact remains, on average, for every 175 miles I drive, I've only burned 1 gallon of diesel (that's a helluva 10%). The rest of the fuel is WVO, with reduced emissions. So my apple is cleaner than the other apple, but not as clean as the orange you say I should eat. I'm fine with that.
And since you are so involved in the WVO community, I appreciate you speaking for the rest of us when you say we convert them for environmental reasons.
The main issue here is, I'm comparing MY car that would be run using Dino-juice to MY car running WVO. You are comparing SOMEONE ELSE'S car being driven on (I can't keep track of) some other fuel to a current model year car on gas. Yes, they are polluters, as is what you drive. If you subsidize my purchase I'll buy a newer vehicle and run that on WVO.

That's the crux of it. Pick the emission you care most about. If CO2 is what you're worried about, WVO will DEFINITELY help....every gallon you burn will put CO2 in the air, but it is CO2 that was taken out of the air last year by plants as they grew.
OTOH, old diesel has higher particulate emissions than an equivalent age gas car, and some people will whine about it. I will show the whiners a biodiesel dragster and laugh at them: http://www.cumminsracing.com/
