I've found a "used but as new" 125cc Hodaka Wombat for sale. I'd really like to have it but the price is $1500 which I think is close to the value of it on a national market. It's all there, all original, and runs and looks great.
What do you guys think about the price?
I've never had one but have ridden them quite a bit. In the 70s many guys would trade bikes with you so we could all experience different brands. I had a Bultaco, Maico, and CZ. The little Hodakas seem to be unkillable.
$1500 seems awful high for that bike to me.
Street legal? Registerable?
Not terribly knowledgeable on the market, but I don't that is entirely out of line if it is in very good condition. They are pretty classic bikes.
Does it look like this one?
In reply to aircooled:
Street Legal and registerable. Been ridden 3 times in last 20 years. Stored inside, very clean.
I know it's a lot of money for an old bike but I also know that most of these are in land fills. They were everywhere in Atlanta in the early 70s and were beat on unmercifully. This guy had a small dealership and kept this one.
Yes, it does look exactly like the one above. I've been looking for an affordable smoker for several years but this is the most affordable unmolested bike I've seen yet.
These are pretty rare by now and most of the ones one can find are basket cases and/or having missing parts.
At least out here in the Wild-ish West where vehicles appear to be more expensive than out East, that's a pretty good price. Heck, you pay that for a really clean 70s Honda dirtbike.
An unmolested un-restored original has to be pretty rare, most of those bike are trashed. Easy to register on the street is a big bonus also. This is what my XL80 looked like when I bought it, and this is pretty common (and it was a bit of a pain to register):
It's feeling better now (with it's older brother):
But it took a fair amount of work, and uses a fair number on non-stock parts.
If it runs, $1500 is a steal. Hodakas are bringing some jack. Ask the Curmudgeon.
Sounds like a museum piece.

And who doesn't recall the racing version, the Combat Wombat.
As a closet Hodaka freak, if you can get a complete rideable Wombat for $1500 do it and thus earn my undying hatred.

So, have you bought it yet?
I had an Ace 100 that looked exactly like that
I'm seriously about to cry like a sissy girl right now...
If John Wayne on a Hodaka doesn't convince you to buy it, nothing will.

No, looks like I've missed out. He's holding it for a man who is driving in from out of town.

Too bad that's not me. I'd love to have a chrome tank Combat Wombat but would take the enduro version too.
crap man, if you want it 15 texas tens??? get it........i got 20 grand in a polaris rzr........
Well crap I should have bought that Combat Wombat I saw for $200.
If the $200 bike looked like this pic it was a Super Combat, they are quick (at least by the standards of the times) but man they is UGGY.
Yes, that is the factory color combination: orange tank and fenders with a blue frame. I think Timothy Leary had something to do with that.
Honda, Hodaka, what ever it takes.
