He looks a LOT better. I swear he was resembling the Cryptkeeper:

Don't know what he did, he just needs to keep it up.

From what I've heard about Sammy, he takes much better care of himself than most old rockers. I'm the rarest form of VH fan in that I like both guys pretty much equally. DLR-era Van Halen had the better music, but Sammy is such a better performer, better singer, and he plays guitar. And he has some decent solo stuff that he used to do during their shows, too. Maybe if I'd seen Dave perform live in the early 80s when he was in his prime, it would be different, but the first time I saw him was in 1994-ish when "A Little Ain't Enough" came out, and he was already starting to lose it.

in their prime Sammy was a better musician but Dave was a better front man.

I won't go see them until Mike is back in the band.

+1 Gazillion!

I'm a BIG Sammy fan, but I look at VH and Van Hagar as two different bands. Both are great if you don't try to pick a winner...but based on their recorded albums, I would pick VH with DLR as the winner if I had too.

I'd have to say "Ditto".

he might come off as that weird creepy old man that hits on the young gals in the bar, but DLR still has it:

I don't think you know what the phrase "still has it" means.

That word. I do not believe it means what you think it means.

The last album was actually Fair Warning. 1984 was the album people bought to find out that it was really over.

1984 is an interesting album. It has Jump, which really was the beginning of the end, as well as Hot for Teacher, which I think is still one of their best songs.

HFT and Panama, both from that album, are probably top 5 Van Halen songs for me. But, there's also I'll Wait, which is just... lame.

The good thing is that Eddie's dalliance with synthesizers only lasted another album or two. And it wasn't all bad, I like "Dreams" with that Blue Angels video.

Oh yeah, I'll Wait is pretty lame, too.

I'll wait, until Eddie gets tired of keyboards, and returns to his guit-ta-ar.

I still think their first album is one of the finest rock n' roll records, ever.

DLR was the perfect frontman of that era, and his vocals were fantastic. Hate seeing and hearing what he's become.

This is the DLR I want to remember: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wHXbi1bC9T4

I prefer to listen to early Van Halen more than I prefer to watch them badly lip synching on some random Euro TV show. Those boots were really something...not sure if rock is quite the word I am looking for though.

Hah - reminds me of the time my sis and I dropped our paddles and got stranded in a rubber dinghy in the middle of the lake, while singing this. Yes, there was beer involved...

Agreed. He sure was looking scary for awhile.

I don't mind either version of VH, although I don't recall hearing any of the Gary-era stuff.

While I can give DLR a pass for the Kimmel performance due to the busted nose, I've seen enough of other recent performances to know I don't really need to see them live again. At least not for the kind of money I'm sure the tickets will be sold for.
