BTW... it's "arrogance".
My g/f is part German (she likes to ignore her Polish side) so I'm quite familiar with German "thick-headed-ness". She's an engineer as well, so it's doubled...

All the engineering in the world won't come through poor execution pushed by the bottom line!
Still trying to figure out the cam adjuster on my 1.8t Jetta. New part a year ago and still the MIL is illuminated. And I'm learning to hate my Tiptronic as well.
That all being said, owners I talk to really like their Mk5 and 6 cars?

Yeah, me and a buddy of mine (mechanic at my "Trusted Ally" shop, actually) tried to get the Southern Volks interested in a track day at RAtl or Roebling, and they were all afraid they'd do something to screw up the cosmetics. Lots of wax & shiners in that crowd.
Since Waterfest is usually held at Englishtown, NJ - not terribly far from my g/f's house - I try to leave the VW at home or be out of town during that w/e... TDIfest, on the other hand, seems like it might be fun/interesting to go to.

I went to Detroit Public Schools. I think the fact that I even know any 9 letter words should get me some credit
I take that back, crackhead is a 9 letter word

You, sir, may have an oil control problem. Verify one cam is not a tooth off, then do a "desludge" of the engine, then reseal the cam adjusters.
I leave my Tiptronic in D all the time, it sucks all the time but I ignore it. When autocrossing I have found it is less of a hassle then infuriating myself over timing a shift 11 seconds in advance.
