Guy Proves Child’s Big Wheel Bike is Faster Transportation Than a NYC Bus
Lauren Soroken — Recently Mark Malkoff raced an M42 city bus for a one-mile trek across 42nd Street, from 10th Avenue to Madison Avenue while riding a kid's Big Wheel. Malkoff beat the bus by two minutes - proving that you're better off stealing your kid's Big Wheel than wasting your time on the MTA.
Please don't take this as an insult. I couldn't come up with a better way to distance you from this. It's been a long day.
But was the guy on the Big Wheel running NOS?
Wally was on vacation, the bus route goes to hell.
I love racing on big wheels and NOS is tasty
This story comes up almost every year. They've lost to box turtles, snails, ect. That line goes across 42st stopping at every corner, Grand Central Station, Port Authority Bus terminal, and three stops in Times Square. It is a painful bus to ride as every stop has a crowd, usually with several elderly people.

heck, even on normal cross-town routes a well-paced pedestrian can usually beat the local bus. about the only times I'll bother with a bus is if I need to cross the park and the weather is lousy or I'm in a hurry.
But I wonder how many people can ride a box turtle? Or a snail?
How about a box-flared turtle?

You're missing the part where he added the condition of "if I need to cross the park" to the "I'm in a hurry" condition, implying that one of the occasions where a well-paced pedestrian cannot beat the local bus is the voyage across the park. I choose to believe that the park in question is the Parc Guell in Barcelona.
The sad part is it made perfect sense. Some buses have to cross an avenue every 1/5 of a mile. The buses that cross Central park don't cross as many avenues so the make better time. If you have to take the bus more that 4-5 blocks they generally cover the distance faster than walking, but they get bogged down the worst in the middle of the island. It's why the guy on the big wheel didn't race the bus it's entire route from 12th ave to 1st ave, only where traffic was at it's worst.

Wally, all I needed to see was that the smug so-and-so on the Big Wheel was a young healthy guy, and that he didn't have to drag along a trailer full of folks that don't own a car. Keep on keepin on, dude. There's a need.

Again. I love you man, I love the stuff you put here and I had no better way of distancing you from it.
If I had been paying attention to your FB pics lately, I would have gotten this;

It's problem routes like these that keep me employed. Besides, you have to have a sense of humor to recieve awards like these.
