I received this in an email.

PLEASE CIRCULATE THIS NOTICE TO YOUR FRIENDS, FAMILY, CONTACTS!

In the coming days, you should be aware.....Do not open any message with an attachment called: Invitation FACEBOOK, regardless of who sent it. It is a virus that opens an Olympic torch that burns the whole hard disc C of your computer.

This virus will be received from someone you had in your address book. That's why you should send this message to all your contacts. It is better to receive this email 25 times than to receive the virus and open it.

If you receive an email called: Invitation FACEBOOK, though sent by a friend, do not open it and delete it immediately. It is the worst virus announced by CNN. A new virus has been discovered recently that has been classified by Microsoft as the most destructive virus ever.

It is a Trojan Horse that asks you to install an adobe flash plug-in. Once you install it, it's all over. And there is no repair yet for this kind of virus. This virus simply destroys the Zero Sector of the Hard Disc, where the vital information of their function is saved.

SNOPES SAYS THIS IS TRUE............ http://www.snopes.com/computer/virus/youtube.asp

Heard about this, happened to one of my tech's at work. Bad stuff. Who comes up with these viruses anyway? I'd like to drag them all out and beat them with large spiked bats.

Actually, snopes calls it a hoax.

These are key words that almost always accompany a hoax.

This! Nobody minds the occasional well-meaning faux pas . It's only annoying when you have that guy in your group that goes off every time something comes in to his inbox. Corporate "-all" type mailing lists are dangerous with one of them around.

Mac owners need only worry about drowning if it rains.

Wow, that's pretty uncalled-for. I currently own 4 Macs in active duty, 2 recently retired Macs in reserve, and have owned at least 4 beyond that, going back over 23 years.

Judging from my other posts, do you think I'm too stupid to come in out of the rain? Not to mention that most of your favorite magazine is produced on Macs. Sheesh. Outdated stereotype much?

This thread delivered the lulz.

Thanks for trying to help 914... but I can't see where getting Facebook deleted would be a bad thing.

But for real, no harm in posting it. Better to put it out there and flesh it out on a forum before sending it to all your contacts... You DID wait to verify before sending it out to all your contacts, didn't you?

Obviously not directed at you with your Military Macs... just normal Mac users I'd think.

Seriously though I think you took that a bit personally and it made me chuckle. I'll save the "butthurt much?" trolling comment for another day.

Disclaimer, I dual-boot Win 7 and Ubuntu.

Coincidently, I received one of those Facebook invitation emails this morning from someone who sounded vaguely familiar, and my first thought was "That's a dumb hoax, Facebook knows I'm already signed up under this email address."

I know, you can walk further into the deep end of a swimming pool, too. Except when it's raining, I suppose.

Nah, you probably do. At this point the whole "Macs don't get viruses" is horseE36 M3 marketing and blind fanboyism. Only real reson they used to be virus proof is because nobody was bothering to make a virus for computers that barely got used by anyone.

More people use Macs, more people make viruses for them. A computer is a computer, so they'll get em just as easily as anything else.

Sorta related side point, what the hell is the plural of virus? Because viruses doesn't look right to me.
