I owned one just like this, same color. Big block 390, 4 speed. It dusted off my '70 Boss 302 without a lot of issue, and my buddies '67 GT350.
Not sucky OK, it didn't set the world on fire, and it should have been sold as the third Gen probe, but find a sport model with V6 and 5spd and go flog it for a couple of hours, not sucky at all.

Disagree.
Not only is it sucky it is a giant POS too.

i love my impala SS, and i will never sell it, but i've got first refusal on my buddy's supercharged 12 second marauder when he croaks. hopefully no time soon, but i've got that going for me. they're cool, but all big decently quick cars are cool.
I had a CapriII, loved that turd brown thing. Not sure I get the context of this question though... these things were pretty neat cars.

The early ASC McLaren's were Capri based.
The mid 60's S-55 was also a performer (for what it was), and could be had with a 427 in '63.
Cool story bro, I've dragged a pair, raced a few others.
It was either BNIB or had the rear gear swapped. Also see, test car was modded(more so than was claimed I'm sure).
We took an impy to the strip with only 3.42 lsd rear done and the best it could muster was a 15.2 on a cool day at a very well prepped track. We did run mid 14's with it after installing a FULL exhaust, flashing it, and partially gutting the interior though. Some shady reporting by Hemmings IMHO. Its like comparing my 3.2L bolt ons '91 sho to a bone stock impy. Guess which is faster. SMH
It's all a conspiracy theory I'm sure. Mine never ran a what I said it did and the Taurus was a rocket and handled like a slot car...Whatever man
http://www.caranddriver.com/reviews/2003-mercury-marauder-road-test-mercurys-hot-rod-page-2 I'm sure this one was rigged too.

i could have bought one brand new at the end of '04 for $15k just because the dealer wanted it out of their showroom.. it had been sitting in the same spot inside the front door of the showroom for almost 2 years, and not a single person ever asked to take it for a test drive. it had like 15 miles on the odometer, probably from one of the service guys taking it for a test drive after an oil change or something. i think i was the first person to ever ask them to pop the hood so i could see how an engine with such small displacement could fill the engine bay of such a big car... i didn't get it, but i did walk out with the sales brochure and got a laugh out of how they compared it to a car that was made 7 years earlier..
