Music is overly dramatic, especially for how long the video is. I might have the music fade into background while getting some actual event sounds.
The title and credit scenes are too abrupt, maybe them fade out and fade in? Shorten the ending credits by oh...15 seconds. Make them black background, or even overlay. You can display brief messages like "all vehicles welcome" and "safe, controlled enviroment" and "come join us" all overlay over scenes of cars on course.
Switch frames after the Mercedes launches but before the Tacoma enters the frame. We don't need to see the morning meeting shots. I'd also remove the damaged car, might scare aware beginners.
If this is to promote rallycross, I'd definitely remove the shot of the damaged vehicle.
I'd also shorten it to about 60 seconds, and consider a voice-over narrative.
The random crowd seemed unnecessary. The carnage shot that you had of the hyundai was nicr, but i was left wanting details. Action footage, the launches were fun, but we probably only needed one from each driveline. Watching the f150 plow cones...didn't do it for me the camera and stuff was well done and i loved the slowmo shots. If youre going to use it as a marquee to get people into it....make more sideways. Everyone likes sideways. Neat video regardless.
When I watch this I feel as if you are trying to show me what happened at your event rather than get me excited about what I could be doing. Here is what I would do differently.
1) shorten it to no longer than 1:30 total time 2) get some in car video 3) get some happier music 4) lose the image of damaged car 5) less car launch shots. They are all good, but I am left thinking it's the only good thing that happens.
At the next event see if you can get people to put your camera on their cars. Cameras mounted low to the ground increase perception of speed. Footwork on the pedals can be cool.
Good luck!
Better overall. I was going to say more sideways as well, and those dust clouds really help. The music could be a bit more upbeat/faster though. I was going to say to move the "come join the fun" to when the white car was sliding, then the miata took off and ran, so I think it got the point across.
Go to your local Aldi this week and hope they still have a "Bresser HD Action Camera" still in stock, 40 bucks, almost same specs as a GoPro Hero 4, and will fit all GoPro accessories. It just won't break the bank if someone runs over it, and doesn't come with a suction cup mount. But it would be great for in car or on car video, and that footage can really add to the speed and excitement. (I just bought one, haven't tried it out yet though)
I like effort number two better.
Good balance of music and car noises. It looks more professional to me too.
Good job!
Much better! I didn't feel any desire to skip ahead like with the first one.
Is there anyway to have that first launch louder? Maybe you could make the rest of it more quiet so the viewer turns up the volume enough to hear it without being blasted by the louder parts that follow.

The problem with the first launch is it's replayed at half speed. Movie Maker won't separate the audio from the video, so the audio track is at half speed too. It sounds like a tractor so I had to cut most of the volume out of that clip. All the slow speed shots have that same problem.
There was a surprising lack of sideways, and I was doing training for RallyCross safety steward, so I didn't get to spend enough time behind the camera. My daughter shot a large majority of the footage.
Thanks for the input.

I just jumped on this thread, and I must say, I really like the first version. First of all, I like the music. I personally don't think it's overly dramatic. It's appropriately dramatic. Secondly, I think it's perfectly fine to show what can go wrong during the heat of competition: things do break, and cars really do crash. (Truth in marketing, etc.) And third, I love the mega-dust scene, which I think was cut from the abbreviated version. I know that I'm in the minority based on the postings here, but for me (and my humble experience ), I prefer the original.
Not sure what you are going for, but my recommendation would be to cut your clips shorter at each end and just focus on the action. Like 1 second or less per shot. While we all know rallycross is great fun when you are driving, watching a car traverse even a second or two of course without major steering or brake input is just boring. Its very hard to make a video that captures the adrenaline rush the driver feels, or even close.
Great example of what I'm talking about: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M_EZuNj_3_A They even make HS cars look fun.

I understand your point, but I don't think I agree. I didn't really like the chopped up video. It was tough to make it through the entire thing.
That doesn't necessarily make me right though.
How about it peanut gallery.
1; the music is dramatic, go for something more exciting and energetic! You want them bouncing on their seat excited to do the activity!
2; the launch clips, reduce the amount of time you are looking at a stationary car waiting. Fractions of a second count, keep the energy.
3 engine sounds, make sure you can HEAR THEM! (and I mean loud and clear!)
