Filled with the aforementioned vanilla bean ice cream and topped with hot fudge, just like the serving suggestion above.

I just found a fix for this issue. I love pumpkin pie. Apparently as a child every year my mother would ask me what kind of birthday cake I wanted I always responded with pumpkin pie. I guess she had a hard time finding pumpkin in june.
Being from the Pacific northwest I had never experienced sweet potato pie. I think it exists so that you don't feel awkward making pumpkin pie in the off season.
