Guess which one's me.
Fixed now.
I don't know which one you are (second row, third from left, judging by the shirt), but I know I enjoyed that same tour, despite the terrible irony that the distillery is in a dry county and they can't provide samples.
The physical effect of the alcohol wafting into my nose at the top of one of the charcoal filtration barrels is etched into my brain. As much as I've come to appreciate better whiskies, I have a natural connection to Jack Daniels as the definitive Kentucky Whisky. I'm not so sure that's a bad thing, actually.
I mean, they employ at least three guys who's only job is to build a stack of wood to burn for charcoal, every day. Any company with a job description like that is okay in my book.

yea, fifth from the left, front row, GRM T shirt.
Mine of the same vintage doesn't look that good.
I did that tour when I was about 16. I still remember almost knocking my self out by sticking my nose in one of those two story tall stainless vats and taking a deep breath. Really a neat place. They used to give out bottles of spring water. They had a cool porcelain stopper. I probably still have one somewhere.

The smell of the fermenting product is awesome. I don't even drink and still love that smell. I enjoyed the tour even though I had "issues" with Jack Daniels. George Dickle does a tour too that is cool.
Yeah, "issues" with Yukon Jack too.
One of the great palces to visit in America. Its amazing how many people you talk with that have been there. What amazed me the most was how many millions of dollars worth of wiskey they had aging in giant warehouses around the area.
I just went there a couple weeks ago...made sure to stand way in the back for the picture.
The tour indeed smells good and after taking the tour I almost felt like it was my patriotic duty to drink some Jack.
