I'm all a quiver.....

These are the extreme do-gooders from Topeka, Kansas that stand outside funerals of fallen military members with signs saying their deaths are God's punishment for condoning many aspects of society and Obama is the antichrist. (used to be Bush)

These narrow minded zealots are protesting a local high school; I don't know what the HS did to deserve their ire, but the church group has a permit.

They plan on heading north later to protest at a State College running a play called "The Laramie Project", a play that explores homophobia.

Yes, yes, yes, I know, it's a free Country, they have every right to protest anything with the proper permit.

I dislike political/religous rants on car Boards because of the intense emotions of some, I'm NOT trolling for a cause, just ranting.

Take a breath.....

To me, this thread has little to do with religion, and a lot to do with idiots.

Nothing to do religion at all. Just idiots.

Actually, it's about idiots who use religion to justify their idiocy.

We saw them when we were in Topeka for Nationals. We were on our way to lunch. At lunch we decided we needed a picture of me dry humping my buddy Bill in front of the "God Hates Fags" protesters. Much to our chagrin, they had departed by the time we went back to the site. Opportunity missed.

they are idiots.. brainwashed idiots.. but they are also quite intelligent. they know how to make the laws work for them.

I am not a believer in heaven or hell.. but if there are such places.. I cannot wait till judgement day when they stand before their god to find out where they spend eternity

At least this time (with the play - don't know about the HS) the object of their protest has something to do with the subject of the protest.

Agreed, sorta. It may have something to do with the play, but in Albany these are HIGH SCHOOL KIDS !!

I have a religion and it's between me and God, I don't need some bible thumper interpreting for me. JFChrist lets sick Tom Cruise on them. That'll send them back to the wheatfields.

Dear GRM, please put this in the "On the Message Board" section of the mag. That would rule!

Thanks, PC

When I was living in Colorado, they made the trek up to Wyoming to picket Matthew Shepards death. (gay college kid who was beaten to death and left to die tied to a fence)

While pretending to be righteous and godly, they are exactly the opposite. I see them as domestic terrorists, who should be treated the same way we treat all enemy combatants.

I'm a pretty mellow guy, but this group makes my trigger finger itchy.

Isn't that the definition of religion?

They are actually a very good example to those who are religious how those who are not sometimes see you. It's pretty silly (scary sad in this case) but it is what they believe in. The very nature of religion (faith) means that you really cannot make an argument against their believes, otherwise you need to make the same argument against all other faiths.

Their actions of course are another thing all together. As with other religions that is the hard line to draw. Personally I wish all of them (religions) would let others be. Believe what you believe, stop pushing it on others.

I think the best solution might be to start a religion that interprets the bible to say that true believers must go out and support these people in there endeavors. Of course the method of support would involve being upwind of the protest and creating the nastiest smells possible! You just have to find some bible passages to justify it. Shouldn't be too hard though, there have been some pretty twisted interpretations done (these guys being a good example)

They were at our college campus (actually, I'm not sure if it was them, but whoever it was had the "God Hates Fags" thing). My friends and I wore brightly colored shirts, and went to talk to them. We started hitting on the guys. It was pretty funny, they got really close to violence.

Westboro Church is run by an intelligent evil man. He hides his hate speech behind the guise of church. Their "church" is mostly made up of relatives of the leader. The police have to be very certain of what they have before they can pursue these hate mongers. They did get a bill from a police department a while back after they asked for protection during a protest and then failed to show up for their own protest. The cops were there in force for the protection of these scum and their was nobody there to protect. So the cops sent the "church" a bill.

Most of my Christian buddies hate these clowns much more than this lil' atheist does. I just think they're in-bred loons, but one of my lady friends gets so angry just seeing them on television that she has to leave the room.

Not necessarily. There are plenty of religious folk who are intelligent and tolerant of others (SvReX is a good example on this board). Then there's the idiots like this gang of jerks and a couple members of my extended family who justify all of their prejudices with bible verses.

I'm a very religious person and also very well educated. I believe what I believe and if someone asks me about it I'll happily tell them, but it's people like this who make it hard on the rest of us who have strong backgrounds in faith. These people make my stomach turn on so many levels (not to mention, I'm a soldier too). The God I believe in will stomp them in the eternities.
