They are wire guides for the steering cables for my Herter's. They're bronze (I believe) and likely vintage. No search terms I have tried have turned up the correct items. Anyone find a link where I can buy a half dozen or so?

Never heard of them before, but oh man. That's a huge rabbit hole to climb into. I'll check more in the morning
Not exact but I tried searching the nautical term Pad Eye.

It looks like a heavy duty version of a fishing rod guide. You could probably make your own with a piece of wire. If they aren't visible when installed in the boat, it probably doesn't make much difference what they look like.
Is there strain on the eye? Like the cable using that as a turning point. With spring tensioners at each end of the cable it shouldn't flop around much. The nearest thing I can find is a half circle loop on a piece of flat stock, functional but not correct for Pebble Beach. I assume you looked in the Herter Company for parts availability or NOS.
Mr. Asa,
I suggest you take one to T.A. Mahoney's on Adamo Drive in Tampa. Walk up to the oldest person you see working there, and ask, "Do you carry THESE?"
That boat looks like a great project, and you seem to be making a lot of progress!

I'm a huge fan of Mahoney's. I'm sure they like me as well, I've cleared out their Zinc Chromate supply twice now.
Decent idea.
Well, T.A. Mahoney's was a bust. Guy didn't even know what it might be called and said I might have to fabricate it.

Any more info on this? I did some googling today and didn't find anything.
Nothing more Mr. Asa, just being a wiseass because just above my post was one in Viet Namese (a canoe).
Ordered some 1/16" 316L TiG welding rod. What I got was undersized, is that normal?
Anyways. I grabbed an old 5HP driveshaft. Vice gripped one end onto the driveshaft and cranked down on it. Didn't work that well.
So, scratched my head a bit, did some google, found a couple wire-forming videos and scratched my head some more. Fired up Solidworks and made a little thingie.
4.5 hours and a couple yards of filament later. Result is not 100% as tight as I want it to be, but I think it will work, have to finish the mounting eyes but that's nothing. Maybe when I install it I can tension it so it closes the spring up? Or I might just leave it be.

I got to thinking and probably realized I could do a similar thing for the eyes. Have a blind hole so it has a certain depth it can get to, then wind it around a post or screw or something and slide it off.
Those are pretty damned close to what I made. Should have started with them, probably. Oh well, now I have a new tool and method of making stuff
