If its like Montana, you register and plate it once in the whole time you own it. Waaay cheaper than doing it every damn year like in Illinois.

That engine is called the 4bt. You see it in a lot of bread trucks among other things. It's also a popular swap engine. It's too bad it isn't offered in a truck like the 6bt is.
its not offered because they couldn't make it meet the NVH requirements. a lot of people that swap in 4BTs end up with a ton of vibration. i've heard that the power and mileage isn't all that great either.
I have a Diesel Power (or something) magazine with a 4BT 1st Gen Bronco conversion feature article. I don't off hand recall the NVH issue, but I do remember reading the truck would get well into the 30 mpg range on the hwy. The engine is worked as well and puts out as much power as a lightly modded 6BT. I personally know a guy running a relatively stock 4BT in an old military Jeep p/u, but it is lifted with 40" Super Swampers, so NVH is relative.
I definitely don't understand the idea of spending $40K on a new deisel p/u and then beating the snot out of it... One thing I like about my Dodge is I don't care about tossing whatever into the bed and nor do I care much if the bed sides get banged. I look forward to using the truck to teach myself sill panel replacement since it won't matter much how it looks when I'm done.
I'm just hoping the 4.5L V8 Duramax makes the light of day in a 1/2 ton......

It'll never happen. If it does, I like my crow on the grille.

We spent Saturday morning looking at the new ecoboost F-150. The salesman strongly suggested doing a "build sheet" and getting the truck we wanted w/o anything we didn't want, after my WIFE was griping about the trucks on the lot being loaded with too many luxury options.
He quoted six to eight weeks for delivery, not too shabby.
I will buy a truck from the first company to offer a 4cyl. turbo-diesel. But I think my next truck will be a Ford.

It's not like Montana. Yearly registration, just like a car.
Haven't seen a spike in drilling activity around here. It's a lot quieter than it was a couple of years ago. According to my father in law, it's due to taxation on the oil companies. If you want to hear more, I'll give you his phone number. Better make sure you've got some time
You don't have to beat the snot out of a work truck. But they ARE work trucks, so it can happen. All the old beat up work trucks were once shiny and new as well...
