I always considered the sunroof to be the piece of glass that allows sunlight to get in and a moonroof to be the solid piece of metal. Either can be removed.

My '86 Prelude Si has a moonroof as defined by Honda. It's a retractable glass panel with an interior-matching, opaque, sliding underpanel.
Neither are removable without tools...........
