Please forgive the threadjack but how much do you pay per month for internets if you don't mind me asking?

I've got 10-15mbps service and it runs me just shy of $50 a month. I'd kill for the speeds you have at a rational price.

I think I pay $52.95 or $62.95 just for internet. I have basic cable through Comcast but its provided by my homeowners.

I will check the bill later on tonight and confirm.

That's a pretty good deal. Time Warner has this area by the balls.

We're paying $52/month for "up to" 30Mb/s with Charter out here. Amazingly enough we even tend to get that speed most of the time.

Is that the problem? Time Warner is the "main" provider around me as well.

Most areas in the country have either a monopoly or duopoly when it comes to Internet access. Doesn't really matter all that much who the main cable co is, either, they're all much of the same although by most people's standards, Comcast and probably TW take the cake.

i'm paying for $44.95 a month for 50mbps, but i did a speed test the other night and got 65mbps.. must have got upgraded without my knowledge.. i think the fastest plan Mediacom offers in my town is 100mbps, but that's like $75 a month just for internet so screw that..

Lucky bastards, to get internet it has to be beamed wirelessly to my parents house(2 miles from the transmitter tower), and then beamed 1/4 mile down to my house wirelessly. Stupid trees are in the way for a straight shot. Either way, I pay $42/mo for unlimited bandwidth 15mb service. Its much cheaper than paying comcast $200k to run a service line 3 miles so I can pay them $50/mo for 30-50mb service.

I didn't read the entire thread, so apologies if this has already been said.

The MAXIMUM speed you can get with a wireless connection is ~55 Mbps. If you have two devices connected, the maximum speed you can get is now ~27.5 Mbps...

How many devices do you have connected wirelessly? You should "hardwire" as many devices as possible using CAT-6 cabling.

I really like wires. Wireless saves running wires, but it can't compete on real-world speed.

That said, you will likely notice an improvement if you upgrade to a top-quality Wireless -N router.

I thought that was only if you were trying to utilize the max bandwidth simultaneously on those two devices?

Only in an ideal textbook environment. In reality, all devices are always transmitting and thus causing collisions.

Cellphones linked to social networks are some of the worst offenders. They're always pinging servers to get status updates or whatever.

Good question. Does anyone know if Comcast does this? I KNOW comcast is currently running a 'hush hush' operation to block 'residential' service contracts from using VPNs.

Especially with google TV, Amazon TV, and Apple TV and smart TVs, it seems like the big cable company might definitely have motives to throttle the internet entertainment services, but then give you 50 mbps when you run speedtest.

I am not challenge your statement as I don't know much about this stuff, if any at all, but I keep getting around 60mbps on every test I run. Are these tests not accurate?

Quick question, why the hell are some websites blocked and some pictures don't show up after I swapped the router?

I have been encountering this mostly on news sites linked through Google news.

I also cannot open Apple's "App Store" app.

The only thing that I can think off is that when I set it up I turned on a "Firewall" switch on the Asus page.

Thanks
